Protagonists
The main three protagonists of the series.
Ghoncl
The drug-loving, unhinged main protagonist of the series. Ghoncl is the son of the Pale King and the White Lady, making him part of Hallownest's royal family. Loves to terrorise his siblings, young and old, so that they will give in to his demands and increase the size of his blunt rotation circle.- Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Ghoncl as he lands his final strike on the Radiance in book one. She's a goddess, and he manages to finally defeat her by simply feeding her a concoction of drugs.
- Earn Your Title: Only after he has overcome one of Hallownest's greatest threats does the Pale King pronounce him a knight of the kingdom - but his full title becomes the Dope Knight, at Ghoncl's own request.
- My Rules Are Not Your Rules: Ghoncl seems to live in a different world to his siblings, in the sense that he does what he wants when he wants. He likes to cause chaos and often faces no repercussions for it.
- Older Than They Look: Despite being based on The Knight from Hollow Knight and having the small stature to match, Ghoncl is an adult. Twenty-one during the events of the first book, to be precise.
- Rule of Three: One of the three main protagonists, the others being his siblings Hornet and Hollow.
- Toilet Humor: The king of pissing himself anywhere and everywhere.
- Weapons That Suck: Stated to have a nail that he found in a landfill, described as 'one hit away from breaking'. Ghoncl doesn't have much of a use for it, since he solves all his problems with peace offerings of various drugs.
Hornet
A fierce wyrm-beast, the product of an affair between the Pale King and Herrah the Beast. Hornet is a no-nonsense, grumpy warrior who tries to avoid Ghoncl but usually ends up getting dragged into his business anyway. She's the secondary protagonist of the series, and the third enstallment mostly focuses on her.- Action Girl: Hornet is not afraid to resort to violence when words fail, and has impressive skill and agility to boot.
- A Dog Named "Cat": Neither of her parents are actually hornets. It's revealed that Herrah only named her that due to admiring the Hive Queen Vespa's 'sick stinger'.
- Furry Reminder: Often does things in a 'beastly' way, and is often described to be bristling or growling.
- Had to Be Sharp: On account of growing up in Hallownest's equivalent to a red light district. She's probably one of the sanest Deepnest denizens when she has to be there.
- Older Than They Look: Is twenty-three in the second book.
Hollow
The nervous heir to Hallownest’s throne, and the second-oldest child of the royal family. Often terrorised by his younger brother, Ghoncl.Hallownest

The Pale King
The king of Hallownest. He is vain and looks down his nose at his subjects. He has a fragile ego, which others often abuse to get a rise out of him.The White Lady
