Due to its collection-based mechanics, it's no surprise that Chain Chronicle has a whole lot of colorful characters populating its setting. As of the game's most recent version, there are around 250 named Arcana, representing the people you can actually recruit into your team. Beware of unmarked spoilers ahead.

Important Editor's Notes: The sheets below reflect the available Arcana in the Global version of the game. The original Japanese version has much much more characters, which is further inflated with tie-ins with other video game or print franchises such as the Atelier Series, Log Horizon, Maoyu, or Danganronpa.

The Volunteer Army:

The playable faction the player leads, it is less an actual Army than a professional militia, it is made up of people from various professions and walks of life, as well as the various civilized races of Yggdra, all united against the threat of the Black Army.

The Black Army:

The major antagonists of the game, they arrived without warning and overwhelmed the forces of the Royal Capital. It is only through the efforts of the survivors of the latter, in cooperation with the alliance of Guilds based at the Vice Capital, that its advance is kept in check, but only barely; the surrounding countryside around the Vice Capital is a constant battleground, and Black Troop raiding parties regularly strike at the civilian settlements beyond the front lines.
