Kyou, Tomoyo, and Kotomi all get some aspects of their respective routes adapted into the anime, with Kyou and Tomoyo even getting [=OVAs=] dedicated to telling [[ForWantOfANail what if they ended up with Tomoya.]] Ryou, meanwhile, is something of a SatelliteCharacter in the anime adaptation, appearing frequently enough to be considered significant, but gets nowhere near the amount of focus the other girls get.

* WomenAreWiser: In Tomoyo's route, she forms a TwoGuysAndAGirl dynamic between herself, Tomoya and Sunohara. Tomoyo finds herself in this role, forcing the latter to start attending school on a regular basis and take their studies seriously. This also ends up putting a strain on her and Tomoya's romantic relationship because the rest of the student body sees Tomoya as dragging her down to his level.

* CheerfulChild: Downplayed; while she does have moments of being cheerful, especially after Tomoya starts spending more time with her, it's still clear that her father essentially neglecting her for the first five years of her life has been difficult for her to deal with; she has a habit of [[StepfordSmiler hiding in the bathroom when she's sad so no one will see her cry]].

* StepfordSmiler: Sanae told her to not cry unless she was either in the restroom or in Tomoya's arms.

* FreeRangeChildren: She is sometimes shown on her own, such as when she is napping in the forest in the GrandFinale.

* BavarianFireDrill: Tomoya's pranks on Sunohara involve him just telling Sunohara to do stupid things. Sunohara invariably obeys without question.

* TheGadfly: Tomoya likes to pull pranks on people, especially Sunohara.

* CheerfulChild: Which doesn't, of course, preclude her from being a {{Woobie}} -- not in this series.

* CoolLoser: The {{anime}} seems conflicted as to how much it wants him to fit the trope. For whatever reason, he's an astounding ChickMagnet, and for whatever reason, he seems to have an enormously positive impact on every girl he befriends. Nevertheless, people keep calling him a loser -- especially in the ''Tomoyo Arc'' AlternateUniverse.

* {{Delinquents}}: He's similar to Tomoya in this respect as he usually just avoids work, skips class and gets involved in several hijinks. Unlike Tomoya he isn't seen as a CoolLoser in any way.

* TVGenius: See TheWonka, below.

* TheWonka: Despite her eccentricities, she is by far the most intelligent person in the school. Possibly the smartest high school student in Japan, enough to rival [[Manga/LuckyStar Miyuki Takara]]. Heck, she may even make [[Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya Yuki Nagato]] uneasy!

Kotomi also likes to [[DoesNotLikeShoes go barefoot]] in the library like it's her own home, almost instinctively removing her shoes and socks during her visits there. However, her footwear-doffing compulsion sometimes extends beyond the walls of the library- along with the urge to snip pages from books with scissors...

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Prefers to wander around barefoot, for [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} no readily-apparent reason]].

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Always seen barefoot. She likely doesn't even own any shoes.
