[[folder:In General]]
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: The higher-up a member is, the more powerful they seem to be.
* BadassLongcoat/BadassInANiceSuit: Seems to be a staple of the organization.
* BadPowersBadPeople: Unlike the Armed Detective Agency and the Guild, whose members' abilities skew more towards defense or utility, almost all of the Port Mafia's abilities are offensive abilities suited for combat.
* DamnItFeelsGoodToBeAGangster: They draw a lot of influence from [[TheRoaringTwenties Roaring '20s]] gangsters and they're generally depicted in a very EvilIsCool light.
* EmptyEyes: Many of the members of the Port Mafia have these in the manga. [[WordOfGod The artist]] says that they [[http://bato.to/reader#d5ee1f142cbaf2bc_4 tend to draw bigger pupils on the more "tainted" characters]]. Thus, characters like Kajii, Akutagawa, and Mori all have dead-looking eyes.
* TheGoodTheBadAndTheEvil: The bad to the Agency's good and the Guild's evil.
* VillainousValour: They may be criminals, but they'll rush to help defend Yokohama if it's in danger, like when Fitzgerald is planning to level it.

!!Executive Members
[[folder:Ougai Mori]]
--> Voiced by Creator/MitsuruMiyamoto (Japanese), Creator/KeithSilverstein (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mori_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese author and poet Rintaro Mori, who wrote under the pen name Ogai Mori, and his ability is a reference to Mori's novel ''Vita Sexualis''.

The boss of Port Mafia. His ability is "Vita Sexualis".
-----
* AffablyEvil: Even as the leader of the Port Mafia, he acts like a gentleman, being polite to allies and enemies alike.
* BenevolentBoss: His subordinates hold him in high regard. (Dazai, notably, does not.)
* BigBadEnsemble: One of the top contenders for the title of BigBad.
* TheChessmaster: He orchestrated a conflict between Mimic, the Mafia and the government by letting the terrorists into the country, then informed Gide of Oda's weakness so that Oda would attack Mimic, being the only one who could counter Gide's power. And in exchange for getting rid of Mimic, the government allowed the Mafia to operate legally.
* DeadlyDoctor: As a former doctor, he's more than capable of using his knowledge to hurt others.
* EvilCounterpart: To Fukuzawa, being the leader of his respective faction, well-respected and coming from a mundane background.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Occasionally dips into this. The best example was when he sent a letter to the Guild's base asking them if they were in good health... before announcing that he had sent assassins to kill them all.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Was formerly just a medical doctor before he became leader of the Port Mafia. He got this by murdering his predecessor.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: When Fukuzawa suggests the two of them settle their scores with a fight, Fukuzawa goes at Mori with his sword. Mori pulls out... a medical scalpel.
* KillingIntent: He can emit an extremely powerful aura of malice. It's enough to paralyze Lucy Montgomery in her tracks.
* KlingonPromotion: How he became the boss of the Port Mafia. He killed his predecessor after deeming him unfit to rule and had covered it up as death by illness with the former boss choosing Mori as the next boss.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Wears one during his civilian disguise as "Rintarou", a harmless retired physician.
* ManipulativeBastard: Very rarely fights himself, preferring to convince others to do it instead. Best shown when he gives a rousing speech to Atsushi so he will defeat Lucy for him.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Initially appears to be a clumsy and worried man. He reveals himself to be competent in an emergency and capable of scaring the piss out of his enemies.

[[folder:Kouyou Ozaki]]
--> Voiced by Creator/AmiKoshimizu

[[caption-width-right:250:[[labelnote:Click here to see Golden Demon]][[quoteright:220:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goldendemon_bsd.png]][[/labelnote]]]]
-->'''Literary references:''' She is named after Japanese author and poet Tokutaro Ozaki, who wrote under the pen name Koyo Ozaki. Her ability is a reference to Ozaki's novel ''The Golden Demon'', alternatively titled ''The Usurer''.

A Port Mafia executive, able to summon a sword-wielding phantom with her ability, "Golden Demon."
-----
* BadassLongcoat: Her haori extends past her kimono's hem, making it this.
* CoolBigSis: Appears to have been this to Chuuya and Dazai.
* DarkActionGirl: Strong enough to take down Atsushi.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: As twisted as her ways to get Kyoka back to the mafia are, Kouyou really does care deeply about Kyoka like she was her daughter or little sister.
* FirstNameBasis: Similar to Chuuya, she's known almost exclusively by her first name.
* GenderBlenderName: She's named after a male author.
* GuardianEntity: Her ability, Golden Demon. It's similar to Kyouka's Demon Snow, except that Kouyou can control Golden Demon better.
* HandHidingSleeves: Especially when she's acting coy.
* HistoricalInJoke: Before Kyouka joined the Agency, Kouyou acted as her guardian and mentor, and the two have similar abilities. Similarly, the author Kouyou Ozaki acted as a mentor to the author Kyouka Izumi, who carried on his mentor's style.
* KimonoIsTraditional: Everything about her design and mannerisms evokes traditional Japanese upper-class aesthetics.
* LadyOfWar: Wears a kimono, is never seen without a [[ParasolOfPain parasol]], and can kick your ass.
* LoveHurts: Tried to run away from the Port Mafia with her "gentleman friend" when she was Kyouka's age, but they ended up getting caught, and her friend was executed by order of the previous boss. As such...
* LoveIsAWeakness: "Love" is listed as one of her dislikes.
* NotSoDifferent: With Kyouka. Like Kyouka, Kouyou once tried to escape the Port Mafia, but she failed, and her friend who she was trying to escape with was killed.
* PeekABangs: Her left eye is always hidden.
* PlayAlongPrisoner: Is shown to be perfectly capable of escaping captivity after her initial capture by the Agency, but sticks around anyway because Dazai promised her that he'd rescue Kyouka if Kouyou stayed out of the fight.
* PowersDoTheFighting: Occasionally with Golden Demon, though Kouyou is also perfectly capable of fighting with her sword.
* PrimAndProperBun: She has her hair tied into a traditional Japanese bun.
* SwordCane: Her [[ParasolOfPain parasol]] conceals a katana.
* SwordPlant: Does this with her SwordCane sometimes, especially when she's summoning Golden Demon.
* YamatoNadeshiko: A rare villainous example.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair is pink.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: Despite looking like one of the older members of the mafia, Kouyou is only 26 years old.

-->'''Literary references:''' n/a

A Port Mafia executive. His name is pronounced "Ace". His ability, "The Madness of the Jewel King", allows him to convert the lifespan of his subordinates into jewels of the same value. [[spoiler:He dies in the same chapter he's introduced.]]
-----
* AffablyEvil: Is outraged when he discovers that his subordinates have left Fyodor BoundAndGagged on the floor, and orders them to get him clothes and drinks.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: {{Subverted}}. As Kouyou puts it, his fighting skill is only on the level of that of a bodyguard. His real strength lies in his financial power.
* BadBoss: Keeps his subordinates in check using his ability.
* CastFromHitPoints: Can create jewels from his subordinates' lifespans.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:Commits suicide, believing that Fyodor's mind-altering ability will be negated by dying inside the illusion. Too bad mind-alteration isn't Fyodor's ability at all.]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: His fellow Executive Kouyou in particular seems to despise him.
* OddNameOut: Unlike virtually every other character in the series, Ace does not seem to be based on any author or their works.
* PeekABangs: They cover his right eye.
* SmugSnake
* TokenEvilTeammate: Plans on overthrowing Mori someday. He compiles a list of all the Port Mafia members' abilities in preparation for this.

[[folder:Chuuya Nakahara]]
-->Voiced by Creator/KisshoTaniyama (Japanese), Nicolas Roye (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chuya_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese poet Chuya Nakahara, and his ability is a reference to Nakahara's poem "Tainted Sorrow." The phrase he recites to activate Corruption is an excerpt from Nakahara's poem "Sheep Song."

A Port Mafia executive and Dazai's former partner. His ability, "For the Tainted Sorrow," lets him manipulate gravity.
-----
* {{Bishonen}}: He's a very pretty man.
* ByThePowerOfGrayskull: Activates Corruption by chanting 'Oh Grantors of Dark Disgrace. Do Not Wake Me Again.'
* ChainedByFashion: Wears a chain on his hat, and with Corruption activated he's lethal.
* CoatCape: Wears his black trenchcoat like a cape.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Corruption, the true form of his ability. It lets him manipulate the gravitons in his surroundings, allowing him to crush a tank with his bare hands and effortlessly throw around miniature black holes. On the downside, it puts him into a [[TheBerserker Berserker]] state that becomes harder for him to control the longer Corruption is active, and if Dazai can't shut it down in time, [[DeadlyUpgrade he'll eventually be consumed by Corruption and die]].
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: His voice actor, Creator/KisshoTaniyama, is the lyricist and lead vocalist of the band Granrodeo, who wrote and performed the anime's first opening theme.
* TheDragon: Seems to have taken Dazai's place as Mori's right hand man after the former's defection. [[spoiler: After Mori is rendered in an Ability induced coma, Chuuya becomes the temporary leader of the Mafia.]]
* EtTuBrute: Despises Dazai for betraying the mafia.
* {{Expy}}: A refined and more well-mannered Yata Misaki from ''Anime/ProjectK'', to put it simply.
* FashionableAsymmetry: His hair is significantly longer on the left side.
* FieryRedhead: Hot-headed and quick to pick a fight with Dazai.
* FirstNameBasis: Nobody seems to refer to him using his surname, not even his subordinates. See HistoricalInJoke below.
* TheGlovesComeOff: Literally. Due to the DangerousForbiddenTechnique nature of his ability, he holds back in fights. However, if he's pushed far enough and [[PowerNullifier Dazai]] is around ([[TeethClenchedTeamwork and willing to cooperate]]), he'll take off his gloves and at that point you should probably run.
* GravityMaster: His Ability lets him manipulate the gravity of anything that he touches.
* HistoricalInJoke: [[http://dazaiscans.co.vu/post/145701338910/ His real-life counterpart was also often called by his first name as well]].
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: He often gets tricked into acting like a woman. He complied to fulfilling Dazai's prediction of Chuuya walking and talking like an ''ojou-sama'' (or rich young lady in the subtitles) once their conversation is over. He gets to roleplay as a woman for Kajii's plan in the drama CD at one point.
* TheNapoleon: His exact height with the hat is just 160 cm (5'3") and compared to the Port Mafia, he is considerably the shortest among them. In fact, the only people he ''is'' confirmed to be taller than are Q, Kenji, and Kyouka, who are all children under 15 years of age.
* NiceHat: He's almost always seen wearing a fedora, likely an homage to the most famous photograph of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chūya_Nakahara the poet he's named after]]. The hat is so notable that his character profile lampshades it by listing "hats" as one of his likes. Ranpo even calls him "Mr. Fancy Hat" at one point!
* SharpDressedMan: Manages to stand out even in a cast full of them.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Sometimes his first name has two Us in it instead of one.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Wine. Doesn't seem to be an alcoholic though, since he does his job fairly well.
* UnrealisticBlackHole: In his Corruption state, he's able to shoot balls of compressed gravity that act as black holes that swallow anything.

[[folder:Ryunosuke Akutagawa]]
-->Voiced by Creator/KenshoOno (Japanese), Creator/BrianBeacock (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akutagawa_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese author Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and his ability is a reference to one of Akutagawa's most famous short stories, "Rashomon."

A feared member of the Port Mafia that is wanted by the police. He has history with Dazai. His ability, "Rashomon," turns his coat into a black monster that can rip apart anything, including space. He can also use it to shield himself.
-----
* AxCrazy: Akutagawa is in no way a stable person, calmly murdering people by the dozen. He uses Rashomon to viciously rip his victims apart, making no secret of his murders. Hell, he even attacks Atsushi on a busy street in broad daylight!
* BadassLongcoat: He wears a long black coat and [[ClothesMakeTheSuperman Rashomon]] makes him very badass.
* BerserkButton: He can be pissed off almost by anything. What triggers him most is realization that Dazai has found a more capable subordinate than him. He even punched Dazai for stating that Atsushi is a better student.
* CastingAShadow: His coat can be controlled by his ability, Rashomon, to give him this effect.
* ClassyCravat: He wears a white cravat.
* TheDreaded: Due the brutality of his methods and his powerful ability, he is feared by both the Agency and his subordinates (who only follow his orders due the fear they has for him). In fact, the first thing Kunikida says to Atsushi when he joins the Agency is precisely avoid any contact wit him.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Akutagawa has black hair and sickly pale skin. His pallor may have something to do with his illness.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The existence of Akutagawa's [[spoiler:sister]] is revealed in chapter 24.5, almost 20 chapters before [[spoiler:Gin]]'s relation to Akutagawa is exposed.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: During his fight against Hawthorne, Akutagawa calls him "Irmão" (Portuguese for "brother").
* GreenEyedMonster: Hates Atsushi intensely. This is because Dazai praises Atsushi as a better subordinate than Akutagawa.
* HistoricalInJoke: His relationship with Dazai is rather ironic given that, in real-life, Ryuunosuke Akutagawa was an ''inspiration'' to Osamu Dazai, with his suicide at 35 being often cited an inspiration for Dazai's depression and ultimate death by suicide himself.
* IllBoy: Looks sickly and is frequently coughing.
* MightyGlacier: Rashomon is extremely powerful, but quite slow to activate.
* MoodSwinger: He can go from calm to murderously angry in a matter of seconds.
* MultiColoredHair: Has black hair with white tips.
* MythicalMotifs: His overall character design has elements that are evocative of a classic vampire.
* NoBrows: He gives off this impression, but does actually have eyebrows although they're very faint and hard to see.
* NoSocialSkills: Even though he's a part of Black Lizard, the mafia's squad of hitmen, he avoids interacting with the other members. He's only seen interacting with his Ichiyo Higuchi, his subordinate.
* NotSoDifferent: He has more in common with Atsushi than either of them would like to admit. This is lampshaded by Francis when he sees them arguing and says they are very similar.
* PerpetualFrowner: Usually has a calm, emotionless expression on his face. That is, until his temper is roused...
* PowersDoTheFighting: While he can fight a bit on his own, he mostly relies on his ability for combat.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Black and red are his general color scheme.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red Oni to Atsushi's Blue Oni. Akutagawa is violent, ill-tempered and bloodthirsty, in contrast to the much more calm, meek and gentle Atsushi. This is reflected by how their abilities are visually represented- Akutagawa's is red, Atsushi's is blue.
* TheResenter: He hates and deeply resents that Atsushi has gotten Dazai's acknowledgement and respect without even trying, when Akutagawa has been trying to get that for years with no success.
* TheSocialDarwinist: He claims that weak people should die and give way to the stronger ones.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Sometimes his first name has two Us in it instead of one.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Right after Odasaku saves him, Akutagawa picks a fight with Odasaku thinking that the lowest ranking Port Mafia member couldn't possible be as strong as Dazai claimed. Moments later Akutagawa is completely defeated.
* UnknownRival: Of a sort. Atsushi knows who Akutagawa is, but has no idea why Akutagawa hates him in particular so much.
* WellDoneSonGuy: The thing Akutagawa wants more than anything is the approval of Dazai, his former superior and mentor figure. When Dazai praises him for the first time ever [[spoiler:after Akutagawa helps Atsushi defeat Francis]], Akutagawa faints from joy.

[[folder:Ichiyo Higuchi]]
-->Voiced by Creator/AsamiSeto (Japanese), Creator/CarrieKeranen (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/higuchi_bsd_3.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' She is named after Japanese author Natsu Higuchi, who wrote short stories under the pen name Ichiyo Higuchi.

Akutagawa's subordinate. She doesn't have an ability, but makes up for it in firepower.
-----
* {{Adorkable}}: Especially in [[http://bungoustraydogs-wan.tumblr.com/post/152164843273/ Wan]] and [[http://yeouya.tumblr.com/post/143476930028 omakes]], whenever she's trying to catch Akutagawa's attention.
* BadassNormal: Can hold her own against Ability users just by handling guns.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: She becomes significantly more dependent on Akutagawa and less ruthless after her introduction.
* CoolShades: Puts on a pair of sunglasses when she reveals her true identity.
* DarkActionGirl
* GunsAkimbo: Her preferred fighting style.
* HistoricalInJoke: Her passionate, one-sided attraction to her superior Akutagawa is a reference to the real Ichiyo Higuchi's unrequited love for her mentor.
** Like the real Higuchi, Bungou Stray Dogs Higuchi also has a little sister.
* LoveMartyr: She's completely devoted to Akutagawa and looks up to him, despite the fact that he treats her like crap.
* MoreDakka: Wields two sub-machine guns in her confrontation with Tanizaki, Naomi, and Atsushi.
* PrimAndProperBun: Usually wears her hair in a messy one.
* SenpaiKouhai: Has this relationship with Akutagawa.
* UndyingLoyalty: She is fiercely loyal to Akutagawa.

[[/folder]]
[[folder:Motojiro Kajii]]
-->Voiced by Creator/WataruHatano (Japanese), Brian Palermo (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kajii_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese author Motojiro Kajii, and his ability is a reference to Kajii's short story "Lemon."

An infamous terrorist bomber. His ability, "Lemon Bomb,"[[note]]officially translated as "Lemonade" in the manga[[/note]] protects him from damage caused by bombs that are shaped like lemons, but he has to make the bombs himself.
-----
* AdvertisedExtra: The anime put him among the cast listing from before the anime premiered, but he ends up having far less screentime than the other characters in the Port Mafia.
* FightsLikeANormal: Due to the fact that his ability is simply immunity to the Lemon Bombs - not creating them, Kajii has to use his limited combat skills if his bombs aren't enough.
* ForScience: Claims this as his motivation for killing people with bombs. He finds death fascinating and wants to kill as many people as possible to study it.
** He brings it up again in his discussion with Hawthorne about how science, not religion will understand the nature of God and the universe.
* HavingABlast: Carries a near infinite supply of lemon shaped bombs, which his Ability grants him an immunity to.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Wears a ragged labcoat and claims to be a scientist of sorts.
* MadBomber: Gleefully blows people up with his ability while rambling on about the meaning of death.
* OutofFocus: Compared to the rest of its members, Kajii is rarely seen talking to other members of the Port Mafia.
* SlasherSmile: Often sports one.
* SmugSnake: Constantly speaks in a condescending tone to others and loves taunting his victims. Unfortunately, he has next to no combat abilities beyond his 'Lemon Bomb' power. He gets his ass handed to him by Yosano.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to Hawthorne that he was so convinced in his superiority that he didn't question Kajii's ability in further detail and why he needed to infiltrate their base, [[spoiler: this ends up costing them the Guild's ship "Zelda".]]
* WeaksauceWeakness: As noted above, because his ability does not create the Lemon Bombs, he's very weak if he runs out or is separated from them.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: He intentionally lets himself get caught and beaten up by Hawthorne so he wouldn't notice [[spoiler: the cargo Hawthorne's men were loading had been switched with crates of Lemon Bombs.]]

[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elise_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' She is named after the title character of Ogai Mori's short story "The Dancing Girl."

A young girl under the care of Ougai Mori, whom she calls "Rintarou."
-----
* TheAgeless: She appears in the Dark Era, set four years before the main story, looking exactly the same as she does in the present.
* GuardianEntity: [[spoiler:Her true nature as the manifestation of Mori's ability, Vita Sexualis. However, unlike other Guardian Entity abilities, she has full autonomy when not being given orders by Mori.]]
* HairDecorations: She wears a ribbon on the right side of her hair.
* HellishPupils: Displays reptilian eyes after [[spoiler:Mori is stabbed by Fyodor.]]
* HistoricalInJoke: She calls Mori "Rintarou," which was the writer Ougai Mori's birth name.
* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: [[spoiler:Mori has control over the details about her appearance and fighting abilities. She's expressed annoyance with this.]]
* MafiaPrincess: While her actual relationship with Mori is unclear, he leads the Port Mafia and she considers the mafia as a whole to be her family.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair goes well past her waist.
* ShoutOut: She's named after the heroine in the short story "The Dancing Girl" by Ougai Mori.
* SpoiledBrat: Mori satisfies all her whims and lets her do whatever she wants because she's cute.
* SweetTooth: Loves desserts.
* TokenMiniMoe: A little girl among a mafia made of much older people. [[spoiler:Given the reveal that Elise is a manifestation of Mori's ability and Mori's admitted preference for underage girls, it wouldn't be surprising that Mori makes Elise look like that.]]
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: She seems perfectly okay with other people discussing murder right in front of her. She doesn't even flinch when she and Mori stumble across a dead body.

[[folder:Kyusaku "Q" Yumeno]]
-->Voiced by Haruka Kudou
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/q_bsd.png]]
-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese mystery author Taido Sugiyama, who wrote under the pen name Kyusaku Yumeno. His ability is a reference to Yumeno's novel ''Dogra Magra''.

A CreepyChild member of Port Mafia introduced during the Guild Arc, known by his codename "Q". His ability "Dogra Magra" allows him to control the mind of anyone who injures him.
-----
* BullyingADragon: While Yumeno has one of the strongest Abilities seen so far, he tries to use it on Lovecraft, which backfires horribly, resulting in his kidnapping and torture.
* CuteAndPsycho: Looks like a very adorable child, but has the personality and mindset of a demon.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Undergoes this due to Steinbeck torturing him with his vines that are connected all across Yokohama, so once Yumeno activities his Ability the city will be in chaos.
* CreepyChild: Oh so very much.
* CreepyDoll: Uses one that's linked to his Ability.
* CryCute: Hard not to feel sorry for him when he cries like any normal child during Steinbeck's torture of him.
* DeliberateInjuryGambit: He keeps razors tied to his arms so that simply bumping into him will cut him and thus trigger his Ability, cursing the one who harmed him.
* TheDreaded: His power is so terrifying that Mori has to shut down him to avoid a disaster.
* EnfanteTerrible: Despite being a child, he's positively bloodthirsty. According to Dazai, people died by the masses to lock him up.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: His right eye has a star shaped pupil.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon
* IJustWantToBeNormal: When Steinbeck tortures him to spread Dogra Magra by all Yokohama, he starts to cry that he didn't wanted to have his ability and just wanted to live a normal life.
* MindRape: His specialty.
* MulticoloredHair: Has black and white hair.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Everyone calls him Q.
* PsychoticSmirk: Tends to do these while his Ability is playing out.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Tries to mindrape '''Lovecraft''' of all people. He ends being the one screwed at the end.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: After Dazai and Chuuya rescue him from the Guild and are then attacked by Lovecraft, no mention is made of him afterwards nearly 20 chapters later. Presumably, Chuuya took Q back with him to the Mafia.
* WingdingEyes: The pupil of his right eye is a star.

-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese author Naoto Hirotsu, who wrote under the pen name Ryuro Hirotsu, and his ability is a reference to Hirotsu's short story "Falling Camellia".

A sharply dressed man, he is a commander of Black Lizard, the mafia's squad of hitmen. His ability, "Falling Camellia," sends objects flying with a powerful force.
-----
* AffablyEvil: Always polite to everyone, enemies and allies alike. Cross him, however, and you will regret it.
* BadassGrandpa: He's 50 years old and still actively working as an assassin for the Mafia. Tachihara even calls him "Gramps."
* ChangedMyMindKid: [[BigDamnHeroes Shows up with the other Black Lizard commanders]] to back Higuchi up when she decides to storm into the enemy base alone to rescue Akutagawa, touched by her courage.
* ConsummateProfessional: He's diligent in his work and dislikes unprofessional behaviour.
* TheDreaded: Considering how Gin and Tachihara respond to his threats, Hirotsu is ''not'' someone to mess with.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: After slaughtering a warehouse full of people, he comments on how a cigarette tastes better after a job well done.
* HandBlast: How Falling Camellia works, using concussive force.
* HighClassGlass: Never seen without his monocle.
* NotSoStoic: Shows uncharacteristic concern for Higuchi's safety in chapter 14, and towards Gin in chapter 48.
* ShoutOut: The name of the squadron is named after Japanese author Ryuro Hirotsu's book, ''The Black Lizard''.

[[folder:Gin [[spoiler:Akutagawa]]]]

* CreepyCoolCrosses: In the manga, Gin has a cross on her choker, referencing how the protagonist of "O-Gin" was a Christian.

* FirstNameBasis: To hide the fact that she's [[spoiler:related to Akutagawa]].

* LadyLooksLikeADude: Higuchi assumes that Gin is male at first. Dazai reveals that Gin is actually female and has a cute voice.
* TheQuietOne: She has no spoken lines in the first season, lampshaded by her voice actor being listed as "????". She does get a line of dialog in the second season, and it's revealed that her voice is actually cute.
* RelativeError: Before finding out they were siblings, Higuchi thought Gin and [[spoiler:Akutagawa]] were lovers after seeing them casually spending time together outside of work.
* SheCleansUpNicely: On the rare occasions that [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/bungostraydogs/images/6/66/Gin.png.png/revision/latest?cb=20160721204454 she dresses casually]].

* FashionableAsymmetry: Keeps his left sleeve rolled up inside his jacket.
* FieryRedhead: Has red hair and a short fuse.
* GunsAkimbo: He usually wields only one pistol. But when things get rough, he uses two.
* HairTriggerTemper: Nearly attacks Gin after he taunts her. Hirotsu has to threaten them to get them to stop.
* HotBlooded: Especially compared to his Black Lizard colleagues. Despite this, however...
* OnlySaneMan: Perhaps due to his generic design, Tachihara often plays the sane man in Port Mafia-centered [[http://snowyesque.tumblr.com/post/145930451529/ Wan]] [[http://bungoustraydogs-wan.tumblr.com/post/152164843273/ chapters]] and [[http://bungousd.tumblr.com/post/146280430263/ omakes]], contrasting the more eccentric members.

-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese author Sakunosuke Oda, and his ability is a reference to Oda's short story ''Flawless''.

A low-ranked member of Port Mafia and a close friend of Dazai's. The co-protagonist and point of view character of ''Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era''. His ability, "Flawless," allows him to see a few seconds into the future when his life is in danger.
-----
* BadassNormal: His ability is purely defensive, so any fighting he does is using his own skills.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Used to work as an assassin before meeting Soseki.
* DespairEventHorizon: When Mimic kills the children he was raising, his whole world crumbles. It's so bad he even gives up his dream for the sake of his revenge.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: Dies in Dazai's arms while telling him that he won't find a purpose in life wallowing in darkness and urges him to become a better person.
* FriendToAllChildren: He took in five orphaned children and they are fond of him. When Mimic kills the children, Oda loses his will to live and only cares about revenge.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodGangster: While he is in the Port Mafia, he refuses to kill people, to the point of being the most merciful member of all the organization. He even decides to stay in the lowest position of the organization despite his talent, much to Mori's and Dazai's confusion.
* InSeriesNickname: Get's called "Odasaku" (a combination of his surname and the two first syllables of his name) by Dazai and Ango.
* LastRequest: In his final moments, Oda asked Dazai to become a better person and go to the side that saves people.
* MutualKill: Manages to kills Gide at the end, but he dies from the wounds he received during the fight.
* OnlyICanKillHim: Oda, Gide, and Mori all believe that Oda is the only one who can defeat Gide properly, since their abilities counteract each other's.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: His demise is what prompted Dazai to leave Port Mafia.
* PermaStubble
* PosthumousCharacter: Was killed four years before the series began.
* PunchClockVillain: He's working for the Mafia largely because he wouldn't be able to find legitimate work easily due to his past as an assassin and it pays well.
* PursueTheDreamJob: His real dream is to be a writer. He plans to leave the mafia at some point, and is the reason why he doesn't want to kill anyone is he believes that someone who has killed people doesn't has the right to create stories. Unfortunately, [[spoiler:he gives up on his dream when Mimic kills the orphans he raised and he decides to avenge them.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Gide's red. In contrast to Gide, who is passionate and quick to anger, Oda is mostly calm, rational and serious. This is reflected of how their abilities are visually represented- Oda's is blue, Gide's is red.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After deciding to avenge his adopted orphans, he goes to Mimic's headquarters and proceeds to kill every single member he encounters. He succeeds, but at the cost of his own life.
* {{Seers}}: His ability allows him to see a few seconds into the future whenever his life is in danger, which allows him to avoid death multiple times.
* TheStoic: He's usually very calm and collected, rarely showing emotions in his face.
* ThouShaltNotKill: Tries to adhere to this philosophy after meeting Natsume Soseki, but ultimately gives up after [[spoiler:Mimic kills the orphans he was looking after]].
* TragicBromance: To Dazai.
* TranquilFury: During his RoaringRampageOfRevenge against Mimic, while killing every member he comes across, he never once loses his composure. He just pulls the trigger and kills with a completely stoic expression.

-----
* {{Bishonen}}: He's a very pretty man.

-->Voiced by Creator/KenshoOno (Japanese), Creator/BrianBeacock (English)

* PrimAndProperBun: Usually wears her hair in a messy one.

* SlasherSmile: Often sports one.

* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon

[[folder:Ryurou Hirotsu]]
-->Voiced by Atsushi Ono (Japanese), Greg Chun (English)
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hirotsu_bsd.png]]

A commander of Black Lizard. [[spoiler:Also happens to be Ryuunosuke Akutagawa's sister.]]
-----
* CoolMask: The lower half of her face is covered with one.
* CombatStilettos: Wears high-heeled boots in the manga.
* CreepyCoolCrosses: In the manga, Gin has a cross on her choker, referencing how the protagonist of "O-Gin" was a Christian.
* DarkActionGirl
* FashionableAsymmetry: One of her sleeves covers her entire arm. On the other arm, her sleeve is ripped short above her elbow, and she wears an elbow length glove.
* FirstNameBasis: To hide the fact that she's [[spoiler:related to Akutagawa]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:The existence of Akutagawa's sister is revealed in chapter 24.5, almost 20 chapters before Gin's relation to Akutagawa is exposed.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: Nearly attacks Tachihara after he taunts her, despite the fact that they were on a job.

-->'''Literary references:''' He is named after Japanese poet Michizo Tachihara.

A commander of Black Lizard with a short-temper.
-----
* AdvertisedExtra: Has a very small role in the anime, despite appearing in the openings for both seasons.
* BloodKnight: In stark contrast to Hirotsu's professionalism and Gin's stoicism.

[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oda_bsd.png]]

* PermaStubble
