    Savonarola

Girolamo Savonarola

(Played by Iain Glen)
A no-name friar who ends up gaining control of the city of Florence during the Bonfire of the Vanities. He preaches against the corrupt Catholic Church and the Borgia Family.
  • Badass Preacher: Even though he himself is non-violent, his sermons and charisma convince many Florentines to follow him.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Subjected to the strappado before being hanged.
  • The Fundamentalist: The most pious man in Florence and perhaps the entire show.
  • Heroic Willpower: Immune to the church's bribes and can sustain a fair share of torture.

    Caterina Sforza

Caterina Sforza

Countess of Forlì and Lady of Imola, firstly with her husband Girolamo Riario, and after his death as a regent of her son Ottaviano

(Played by Valentina Cervi)
An Italian noblewoman who acts as one of Cesare's first enemies after he leaves the church.
  • Action Girl: Adorns herself in armor during the Siege of Forli and calls out Cesare's bluff when he threatens her son.
Caterina: “Kill them if you will, I have the means to make many more! You will never make me surrender."
  • Worthy Opponent: Cesare treats her cordially when he finally captures Forli. Notable when compared to the fate of some of his other enemies.
