     Alliances

Sixth Sense (Vanessa, Austin, Shelli, Clay, Liz and Julia)

  • Alliterative Name: Sixth Sense
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Vanessa backpedaling on the plan to jettison Austin from the alliance and the house exposed the Sixth Sense, and they lost power to the After Dark Crew and began losing members anyway (first Clay, then Shelli). This led to the creation of a new alliance, the Scamper Squad, consisting of the remaining members of the Sixth Sense and Steve.
  • Meaningful Name: Although the group on paper originally consisted of five members, the name was chosen after Vanessa, Austin, Shelli and Clay found out Liz and Julia were playing as one person – with Julia, therefore, automatically becoming the sixth member of the alliance once the twins survived the first five evictions (effectively placing her into the game, and adding a vote on their side).

After Dark Crew (Jason, Meg, James, and Jackie; later adding Becky and Johnny Mac)

  • All There in the Manual: Anybody only watching the main show wouldn't know that this alliance even had a name - for the majority fo their existence they were simply "the other side of the house".
  • Decapitated Army: Jackie's elimination more or less killed the morale of the alliance. Becky was quickly evicted after and Meg and James were unable to win any crucial competitions afterwards.
  • Fatal Flaw: In a way, the group acting cliquish from the rest of the houseguests, especially the alliance-less HGs, ultimately played a big role in their alliance following apart.
  • Four-Man Band:
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: After Jackie's eviction, Becky pointed out that they still have three powerhouse players – and Meg. Meg notes immediately beforehand that she is not one of the "powerhouses", given her own failure to win competitions.
  • Poor Communication Kills: They renege on their promise to Becky to vote out Vanessa because of their belief that Becky had selfish ulterior motives, and they were more concerned with getting rid of Shelli first. Jackie's shocking elimination was the result of her passing Steve's name as a potential pawn to use in her plan to target Austin. Steve, having not bonded with the group, mistakenly believed she was after him so he targeted her.

Dark Moon (Vanessa, Clay, Jackie, James, Jason, Meg, Becky and Shelli)

  • Awesome McCoolname: Vanessa noted this after the group chose it as their alliance name, even stating that it'd made her want to get a "Dark Moon" tattoo.
  • Epic Fail: Blew up almost as fast as it started, all occurring during Week 5, when Vanessa backpedaled on her plan to backdoor Austin (out of concern over losing a vote on the side of their existing alliance) and put Jason up on the block – not only betraying him but also Jackie, James and Meg in the process and exposing the Sixth Sense alliance, starting '''THEIR''' descent out of power.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Vanessa refusal to inform Liz of their plan to backdoor Austinnote  ultimately caused the alliance to backfire when Liz ended up winning the Battle of Block. Vanessa, not wanting to be the one to backdoor Austin, decided to put Jason up instead.

Austwins (Austin, Liz and Julia)

  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: While they became bigger targets once their former Sixth Sense alliance mates Shelli and Clay were evicted and the three emerged as the secondary power players in the game, Steve and especially Vanessa did the hoisting in Week 10, when they decided to target Austin and Liz. Then during the POV comp, Vanessa fed Julia a lie that Austin would target her if she didn't win the Power of Veto and convinced her to go up against Austin in the second round instead of picking John first. Austin knocked Julia out of the competition, and went on to beat John in the final round, causing Julia to become the replacement nominee once Austin chose to take himself off the block instead of sacrificing himself to save the twins by not using the POV.
  • Portmanteau Name: Austin + Twins (also counts as Punny Name, for one particular fact, just look at what three of the letters in both words are). The three began to be referred to as this (they were collectively referenced as "Austin and the twins" beforehand) at some point around Week 6.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: One made up of two power dios (Austin and Liz, the showmance; Liz and Julia, the siblings).

Austin's Angels (Austin, Liz, Julia and Vanessa)

The Scamper Squad (Liz, Vanessa, Julia, Austin and Steve)

  • Alliterative Name: Their two word alliance name starts with the same: S. The first word is Scamper and the second word is Squad.
  • Backstab Backfire: Austin's decision to alienate and put Steve up on the block ultimately did not pan out. Naturally Steve would return the favor the next week and put up Austin and Liz.
  • Bad Ass Crew: After Shelli's eviction in week 7, they won every single HOH competition. All together, including Sixth Sense, they accounted for 14/16 of the HOH weeks.
  • One Extra Member: The alliance consists of the four members that remained from the former Sixth Sense alliance plus Steve, one of the few houseguests left who was previously unaligned.
  • Team Killer: The Scamper Squad more or less self-imploded after Steve caused Julia's elimination, and Vanessa followed suit the next week and eliminated Austin.

The Rockstars (Johnny Mac and Steve)

  • Bash Brothers: Being close friends in the house, the two promise to watch each other's backs and not throw each others names around when it came to elimination talks. When others became suspicious of their alliance, it led to:
  • With Friends Like These...: Subverted, John and Steve would pretend to be traitorous to one another towards other houseguests. Vanessa didn't buy it, but Austin ultimately fell for it, which played a role in his own elimination.
