Main Characters (Unmarked Spoilers)

    General
  • Adaptational Nationality: In the original game, the characters all have names of European nature, while The Second Dimension gives them (except Fiora) Japanese names instead.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: In the ending, they all finally free themselves from being trapped on Earth and ascend to the Gates of Heaven.
  • Dead All Along: Basically everyone in the world is dead, but their souls are kept on Earth thanks to the experiments of William/Seiji.
  • Together in Death:
    • The original game ends with Victoria and her mother Fiora ascending to the Gates of Heaven and entering.
    • In The Second Dimension, Fiora and Seiji ultimately let their souls pass on together after the final battle, while Yuna and Kazuki, after confessing their love, follow them.

    Victoria Vamentie/Yuna

The main heroine of both games. A white-haired girl who wakes up in a strange, devastated world and meets up with Evan/Kazuki, hoping to find her mother again.

    Evan Wolf/Kazuki

The Deuteragonist and Victoria/Yuna's main companion.

  • Adaptation Name Change: From Evan Wolf in the original to Kazuki in The Second Dimension.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Since he's not the amnesiac Big Bad like he is in the orignal, he's instead a fully heroic friend to Yuna.
  • Deuteragonist: He's Victoria/Yuna's main companion throughout her journey.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: In the original, he's actually Victoria's amnesiac father. This connection is absent in The Second Dimension, and instead he's her best friend who gives a mutual Love Confession in the ending.

    Fiora Vamentie

Victoria/Yuna's seemingly deceased mother, who she can somehow see and hear.

  • Big Good: She watches her daughter through her journey and gives her guidance on where to go in order to stop her husband's experiments.

    The Governor

William Vamentie/Seiji

The Governor of the city and Victoria/Yuna's father who serves as the antagonist.

  • Adaptational Sympathy: William, upon regaining his memories, becomes a selfish Godhood Seeker who only wants to rule over everyone and was even willing to sacrifice his own daughter to his experiments. Seiji, on the other hand, is genuinely driven to save his wife, loves his daughter just as much, and is generally played sympathetically, even having a Redemption Equals Death moment his original version lacked.
  • Big Bad: He is the Governor of the city who trapped everyone in an eternal undeath.
  • Love Makes You Evil: In the remake, it's specified he sought to permanently prevent death when his wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness that would kill her in only three months, and he couldn't bear the thought of that.
  • Mad Scientist: In both games, he used his device to tether souls to the now-ruined Earth, preventing them from going to the afterlife.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: In the remake, he has silver hair and is still the Mad Scientist and Big Bad he was in the original, though significantly more sympathetic.
