A band like Simple Minds has had many of these, but even for this band there are some standout moments:

  • September 1989: Their live version of "Waterfront" at the Arena di Verona in Italy featuring the band at the height of their "classic" lineup of Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Mel Gaynor and Mick McNeil and full on stadium rock sound, showcasing Mick's amazing keyboard and piano chops, including a wonderful piano solo in the middle of the song where Kerr gets the 15,000 strong crowd to roar in appreciation at his playing.
  • December 1997: At the Night of the Proms in Rotterdam, "Belfast Child" with a full orchestra backing the song. The 16,000 strong crowd perform a magical Raised Lighter Tribute to the performance and the thunderous sound of an orchestra in full throat backing the band during the climax of the song is juxtaposed with the flute soloist performing the iconic theme at the beginning and the end of the song.
  • December 2013: "Don't You Forget About Me" performed in their home town of Glasgow, where Jim Kerr holds the entire crowd in the palm of his hand, managing to make a 14,000 strong crowd become almost silent, before bringing them all jumping to their feet for the climax of the song.
