Awesome Music / Life Is Strange 2

Go To

As per tradition for the Life Is Strange series, Life Is Strange 2 contains a memorable, atmospheric soundtrack that complements the theme of the game. The soundtrack of this game uses an indie folk theme not unlike the first game, which sets the tone of the road trip that the Diaz brothers find themselves on. Jonathan Morali of Syd Matters returns from the first game to compose this game's score as well, and, as expected, delivers a soundtrack which helps immerse the player into the story.

Original Soundtrack

  • "Into the Woods" is the main theme of the game, getting many different variations and reprises throughout the episodes. It perfectly captures the feeling of adventure and uncertainty during Sean and Daniel's new life on the road.
  • The main menu theme plays when first starting up the game and/or the first episode, Roads. It plays as the player is treated to a shot of the Diaz's family's home and surrounding neighborhood in Seattle, and is a soothing track which acts as a calm before the storm. It's a lighter version of "We Have to Go", which plays after Esteban and Officer Matthews end up being killed and the Diaz brothers flee the scene.
  • "We Have to Go", a haunting, powerful track that plays when everything starts going to hell in the Diaz family's yard, as Officer Matthews points his gun at Sean and Daniel, forcing their father Esteban to intervene and gets shot for his troubles trying to reach his children. As Sean takes in the destruction that ensued from Daniel's telekinetic powers manifesting and the corpse of his father, the music's pace starts to pick up and he is forced to flee the scene with his unconscious younger brother in his arms.
  • "A Long Road Ahead" acts as the ending theme of Roads, playing in the background of Sean and Daniel's trip on a bus from the North Oregon Coast. During this scene, Daniel asks Sean if his newfound telekinesis makes him a monster, to which Sean reassures him and tells him a bedtime story, which is a retelling of the events they've just gone through using animal analogies. It's a hopeful, optimistic track with a very fitting name.

Licensed Soundtrack

  • Lisztomania by Phoenix, the song that starts off Roads, which plays over establishing shots of Seattle on Sean and Lyla's way home from school. It's an upbeat, catchy tune which establishes Sean's home life as an ordinary teenager worrying about parties and girls.
  • No Woman by Whitney, a song that Brody plays in his car while driving Sean and Daniel down the coast of Oregon, eventually stopping right by an overlook of Arcadia Bay. The song is soothing, which is much needed considering this is right after Sean's unlawful kidnapping by racist gas station owner Hank Stamper and temporary separation from Daniel.
  • I Found A Way by First Aid Kit comes up twice in Rules. It first appears when covered by Cassidy at the Christmas market, where it serves as a youthful contrast to the otherwise aging and dour population of Beaver Creek. It appears again as the closing song of the episode, serving as a hopeful transition out of Oregon as the Diaz brothers leave the strict rules and police confrontation of the episode behind for an uncertain future in California.
  • Natalie by Milk & Bone acts as the ending theme of Wastelands, expressing in broad strokes the emotional stakes of Sean and Daniel's relationship in the wake of Daniel injuring Sean's eye and also injuring up to 4 other people with his powers, presumably followed by Daniel leaving Sean behind to travel alone, without Sean to protect him.
