Awesome / The Death Mage Who Doesn't Want a Fourth Time

Go To

  • The "kind" revenge that Vandalieu exacts against the city of Evbejia: Creating an army of golems, using the village walls, the second floors of the Adventurers' Guild and the Lord's mansion, and the fields of produce and wine grapes as the materials. In short, instead of killing anyone in revenge for them murdering his mother Darcia as a witch, he simply destroyed their means of defense and food production in a single night.
  • The attack of the Ghouls against the Orcs. Aproximately 100 Ghouls, who have a base rank below Orcs, attacked a base camp of Orcs, lead by a Noble Orc, with more than 300 Orcs, and a couple more hundred Goblins and Kobolds. It turned into a complete rout with the Ghoul's side not receiving a single casualty.
  • The defense of Talosheim against the Expedition from the Mirg-Shield Nation and the sequence of events after that. Not only did Vandalieu's allies routed the attack, they didn't receive any losses, added a considerable amount of trustworthy allies to their ranks, but also sent a counter invasion that destroyed the villages that were estabilished on the former Devil's Nest that was home for the first Ghoul tribe that Vandalieu came in contact.
  • Vandalieu motivates the inhabitants of the cultivation villages to fight back against the corrupt noblemen that intended to enslave them under unreasonable charges. Van ensures nobody gets killed before siccing his familiars and monsters upon them.
    • His revenge against the Duchy itself is pretty cool as well, and he didn't even had to destroy it physically as his followers would have gladly done so; he makes his followers take samples of any exclusive products from the Duchy so he can reproduce them at Talosheim, making them lose its value. He also exposes the connections of several officials to the Pure-blood vampires, sinks the Hartner's royal castle and destroys their only mine while taking the slaves, ensuring Hartner's economy and reputation suffer greatly.
  • The fight against Ravovifard is this for Van's followers, who despite losing themselves to their unleashed instincts, continue to recognize the Evil God as their enemy, overwhelming him with sheer brute force. Then Van saves everyone by convincing the Demon King fragments they're part of him, putting them under his control.
  • Van's Awesome Moment of Crowning by being recognized as Emperor of every nation in the Boundary range by both their representatives and Gods, getting blessings for his followers and making new allies in the upcoming conflict against Alda.
  • Vandalieu releases Vida from her restraints that no god can break, and most mortals wouldn't have enough mana to even try. Van manages to do it, and the effect is immediately felt by Alda himself, who bleeds for the first time in thousands of years.
  • Vida, Ricklent, and Zuruwarn telling Vandalieu that he doesn't have to change who he is or what he's doing, and that they will be his allies in the upcoming conflict with Alda and his faction.
  • Van's arrival to the Dark Continent, and after receiving all the Demon King fragments that the gods had in their possession, the fragments declare Vandalieu as the revived Demon King. It's so shocking that Alda in his Divine Realm immediately feels it with concern.
  • Darcia's rebirth is this with a dose of Heartwarming. After years of looking for a way to ensure she returns the way she was, Vandalieu finally managed to give his mother a physical body. Not only that, her body is the epitome of Came Back Strong now that she's the avatar of Vida herself and the progenitor of a new race of elves. As Luciliano notes, she has the strength to duke it out with S-Class adventurers and most likely come out on top, and that's before taking jobs.
  • Van finally meets the Five-Colored Blades, and while it takes him some self-control, he manages to keep them talking so he can gauge his own capabilities within the body created by Curatos.
    • Even better, Van utterly wrecks the Five-Colored Blades' argument that they're doing good with several Armor-Piercing Questions, showcasing how hypocritical and condescending Heinz's so-called atonement truly is. Diana and Jennifer are the most shaken by Van's words.
    • And when Van is finished talking, he declares that his own spirit is more than enough to beat all five of them, and while he's willing to spare Jennifer and Diana, Edgar, Delizah and especially Heinz won't get any mercy whatsoever.
  • Even being limited in terms of powers and abilities, Van completely dominates the fight, getting rid of Diana and Jennifer relatively quickly, and would have destroyed Heinz, Edgar, and Delizah's souls with his newest technique had Curatos not intervened at the last moment.
    • And even then, Van's attack seriously messed up their souls, heavily damaging Edgar's and forcing Delizah and Heinz to rest for weeks.
    • The fact that he completely destroyed Curatos and most of the Dungeon with his final Hollow Cannon, depriving Alda of one of his most useful servants. Even if Van failed in his primary objective of killing the Blades, Alda's faction still suffered a massive loss and the Blades' training was set back significantly.
    • Darcia and Vida tell Heinz exactly what they think about his actions, how they will never forgive him for hurting Van again and then killing his physical body despite being aware they can't destroy his soul.
  • The fight against Birkyne and Hihiryushukaka:
    • Despite all the information Birkyne obtains and the hostages he has against Van, Van systematically destroys Birkyne even when he uses the Demon King's Shadow because Van has light spirits.
    • Then Hihiryushukaka enters the fight at a point where Birkyne broke down. Things get really interesting when Darcia and Vida herself enter the fight as well, and with Van blasts him with the Evil-light cannon, in triplicate, for a triangulated attack so he can't use Guduranis's shadow as a shield. Van then finally consumes Hihiryushukaka and in the end of that entire fight, he has completely avenged his father's side of his family.
