  • In a way, Mrs. Roach's endearing speech through the door to Amelia late at night is this. Not only is she the only one that's ever remotely accommodating to Amelia and Samuel, but Samuel had earlier called her worried about Amelia's behavior and asked to stay the night before she took the phone. While she probably doesn't have any idea what it is Amelia's in the grip of, she had to have known something was wrong and visited late at night to at least say something, which already makes her more interested in helping than the police ever were.
    • After hearing this, the Babadook doesn't leave Amelia, but it does turn on the Crocodile Tears, taking on Amelia's more docile and tender attitude towards Samuel. This is either because it realized someone might intervene if the chaos continued, or because The Power of Love got through to Amelia and shook its unhinged control. Samuel's even able to fend her off one-on-one after this.
    • Earlier in the movie, Amelia had scolded Samuel for having no filter in regards to Mrs. Roach's Parkinson's Disease. However, given the way they're sitting together, it's pretty clear she told him about her Parkinson's, and she's not the least bit upset about him talking about it. Unlike Amelia, Mrs. Roach is able to talk freely about her problems, even ones that must cause her a lot of pain, tying into the central theme of the movie.
  • Samuel using his anti-monster contraptions to subdue Babadook!Amelia, allowing them to have a nice conversation, which breaks Amelia from the Babadook's control. Which leads directly into...
  • Amelia attempting to shout the Babadook into submission in the climax, and succeeding, to the point where it runs away from her in sheer terror.
Amelia: You're nothing. You are nothing! This is my house! You are trespassing in MY HOUSE! If you touch my son again, I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!
  • Admit it, you cheered when Sam punched his cousin for saying his dad died to not be with him.
  • Sam standing up to Babadook!Amelia and firmly saying "You're not my mother!".
