• Crown Princess Victoria handing out the Homo of the Year award to Jonas Gardell. The audience at the Gay Gala gave her a standing ovation that lasted for more than a minute and a half just for showing up. In a way, it served as the ultimate vindication for the people whose lives are depicted in the series. In the eighties, they were regarded with disgust, denied the same rights as straight people, and outcasts. In 2013, the most noticeable member of the royal family tells them they are amazing people and should stand proud.

  Victoria: Straighten your back. Reach out your hand. We shall wipe each other's tears with open hearts and with our bare hands!

• Erik Engkvist, the man Benjamin is based on, had this to say on why he chose to leave Jehovah's Witnesses:

• A very sad moment, but still: Benjamin's reaction to finding out Rasmus is HIV positive is to run home to his parents and tell them that he's a homosexual, has found a man he loves, and will be leaving the church. An especially awesome moment because the night before Rasmus went home with somebody else and in the morning he and Benjamin argued and kind-of broke up.
