"I stood up to them."
- Owen finally standing up to his bullies. When they corner him on a frozen lake, he grabs a heavy metal pole and warns him that if they attack him he'll hit them with it. Owen is so visibly terrified of Kenny that he just laughs it off but when he goes near Owen he makes good on his word and hits him with it as hard as he can. Later Owen tells Abby he hit Kenny so hard he had to go to the hospital.
- When Owen figures out what Abby is, he goes to her place to confront her. When he sees a picture of her and a younger boy heavily implied to be Thomas as a child, he gets upset and tries to leave. When Abby blocks him, he demands that she lets him leave. Considering how utterly submissive Owen's been shown to be throughout the film, it's rather impressive that he stood up to Abby even after realizing she's a vampire and incredibly dangerous.
- When the bullies ambush Owen in the swimming pool, he immediately realises what's going on and bolts out the pool, runs to his locker, and gets his knife to defend himself. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as they outnumber him and each one of them is bigger than he is, but it was still a valiant and brave effort to protect himself.
- When Abby kills Owen's four bullies, she is furious and indignant and lets out an angry scream. It is an act of passion, because she kills the four bullies willfully and excessively. Nowhere else in the film does Abby indulge her vampiric ferocity so readily. Even when she attacked the neighbor out of hunger, she had the presence of mind to flee from her husband, even though she could easily have killed him. Her brutality also stands in stark contrast to her hunting method, which seeks to kill her victims as quickly as possible. Owen means so much to her that she lets her bloodlust take over for his sake. She even took the time to keep the bullys alive for as long as possible while she tore them to pieces. That shows how much Owen means to her.
