This is probably the Trope Codifier of Cool vs. Awesome.
It's King Kong fighting Godzilla. What more do you need?
- The fact that America's top monster took on Japan's is awesome enough on its own.
- Not to mention that this incarnation of Kong can shoot lightning bolts from his fingertips.
- The opening credits of the Japanese version are underscored with A Si Anaroi, an epic choral chanting piece that sets a truly grand tone for the rest of the film. Even the slower "Sleeping Devil" version of the theme, used when Kong falls asleep from berry juice consumption, is just as good.
- What makes this piece so awesome is that the lyrics are not meaningless phonetics, but rather adapted from actual Mono-Alu language folkloric tunes, and one phrase can even be translated as "Legendary Spirit of Thunder", an appropriate description for the god-like Kong.
- Godzilla's raid on the arctic NATO base.
- Kong fending off Oodako after the humans failed to leave so much as a single scratch on him.
- The climatic fight between the two. It's the one of the most brutal battles in the series, especially when Kong tackles Godzilla, pins him down and pummels him several times.
- And when you can see Godzilla clawing at Kong, blasting him with his ray, and nearly killing Kong more than once.
- Let's not forget Kong RAMMING A TREE DOWN GODZILLA'S THROAT!!
- Followed immediately by Godzilla showing off his Determinator status. Instead of trying to pull it loose he OPENS FIRE ON THE TREE TO BLAST IT LOOSE AND SEND IT FLYING STRAIGHT AT KONG.
- And Kong just tanks it and roars back, followed by the best move in the movie; Godzilla charges at Kong, and Kong judo throws him to the ground, the signature move Kong used on the T. Rex all the way back in '33.
