Awesome / Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Go To

  • After Diddy and Dixie defeat Kaptain K. Rool, Donkey Kong breaks out of the ropes binding him, and uppercuts the big croc through the roof, sending him hurtling out of his aircraft and then tumbling a huge distance down the side of Crocodile Isle, landing in a filthy, piranha-infested swamp. If that's not a comeuppance, then what is?
  • Before then, the final battle with Kaptain K. Rool is considered likely the greatest of the franchise, and possibly even one of the best on the Super NES as a whole. K. Rool throws everything at Diddy, Dixie and the player; barrages of cannonballs that fly in increasingly unpredictable and wide patterns, various gases that cause an Interface Screw, charging across the room at them, turning invisible, and teleporting. The battle continually escalates with K. Rool pulling a devious new trick every time you hit him. By the time he finally goes down, the player has earned their ending after such a brawl.
  • Get 102% and you get the pleasure of watching Crocodile Isle explode and sink in what may be the Super Nintendo's most beautifully rendered cutscene ever.
  • The game's clever Take That! to their competitors of the day, including a pair of vividly colored shoes and a ray gun being lumped near a trash can with a nearby sign saying "No Hopers". And since this was around the time Sega was about to go into a steep decline, the timing of this gag couldn't have been more on the mark.
