- In Issue 5, the Pale Court goes to full-scale war against the Vigil by attacking the middle of New York City in broad daylight as part of Maria's plans to capture the last of the veilrippers and Bernie's scythe. The Vigil's response? Clara riding Hugin Yoshi-style into the middle of the fray so she can 'port in the rest of the Vigil.
- After Allistor turns against the Vigil when Wulf explains the reasoning for his Face–Heel Turn, knowing he will find Allistor sympathetic,note Allistor orders Mia to come with him. Mia is outraged both by the betrayal and his demands that they leave, so she refuses, telling him that she's staying with her family, and stands with the Vigil against him.
- Sam shrugging off attacks by multiple Banshees (when in the first issue one was enough to immobilize him) by sheer force of will to attack Wulf and buy time for Clara to port the rest of the helpless Vigil out of harm. At apparently the cost of his life.
- Clara doing what even Allistor was unable to do: bring Sam back from death by using her Veilripper's ability to nullify Necromancers' powers.
- Sam and Bernie's The Big Damn Kiss in issue 8.
