Even when humanity has thoroughly lost to the monster menace, there are a few moments that shine.

Unmarked spoilers ahead

  • James getting a hold of an EGS (Exo Grappling System). Basically, a giant walking tank that wouldn't be out of place in the Metal Gear series. In it, he's basically safe from any non-City Breaker threat. Even more awesome is what he plans on using it for: to distribute and inject a highly potent chemical into Zarius in order to kill it, something he's been wanting to do for a very long time.
  • Although it's the start of many villainous acts to come, Ronald managing to orchestrate the death of the current sheriff of Haven, Gary Fyfe, after he spent his time lying about the threat of the Blight. He has all of his personal guards killed in front of him, reducing the old man to a cowering mess before locking in in with the newborn kaiju. After he's ripped apart, Ron is the boss now.
  • They're horrible misshapen monsters for sure, but the City Breakers were quite awe-inspiring in their own right. Whether they're all still around or not is unknown, but they include Zarius, a giant two-headed bird named Kepaniao, and Skyquake the gigantic tortoise. Little wonder they and many others were referred to as the Magnificent Seven.
  • James blowing the giant insect horde's old home to bits with grenades, taking a good chunk of them out.
  • Zarius vs. the Goblin. The former is only ever annoyed at the smaller monster's biting and slashing. Keep in mind that the Goblin has More Teeth than the Osmond Family, so it takes some major resilience to just shrug that off.
    • Actually, the whole climactic fall of Haven can be seen as this, despite the sheer Nightmare Fuel of the situation. Everything that can go wrong does and then some in spectacular fashion as most of the monster threats seen previously all converge on the supposed sanctuary. This includes Zarius, the Goblin, the newborn kaiju, and the giant insect swarm.
  • Bull saving Allison by jumping onto a giant insect and shooting it in the head. Even better, his lack of a confirmed fate leaves plenty of room for the resident Token Good Teammate to have survived the carnage.
  • Dr. Flanders getting in one last jab at Ronald before the latter escapes the destruction and the former gets killed, telling him that all he'll have left to rule is a cemetery after everything he's done. All Ron can do is leave without much of a comeback.
  • Zarius finishing off the Goblin by smashing its head in with a foot stomp. The insects end up having quite a feast as a result.
  • The moment Zarius' offspring is unceremoniously killed by Haven's survivors, it shows them EXACTLY why it's The Dreaded among kaiju. It begins to charge up pure white energy, its spikes start to glow, it begins to build up copious amounts of flesh...and then proceeds to burn it all away with a blast of pure-white plasma that reduces what's left of Haven to a glass floor. Imagine the infamous "Who Will Know" scene from Shin Godzilla and you have the right idea.
  • Just when it seems that Zarius will continue to annihilate all, James comes back in his EGS to finish what he started and inject the kaiju with the chemical. He even causes the monster to get knocked over in true David vs. Goliath fashion!
    • Unfortunately, Zarius trips up the machine and causes it to unintentionally fire upon people, including Allison.
    • After a while, James realizes that if he's ever going to get Zarius' vulnerable spots, he's going to have to inject the chemical manually. The process all but kills him, but in the end, he succeeds.
    • As James lays in the destroyed EGS as a dying man, he gets the privilege of seeing Zarius slowly and graphically blow up, its blood no longer black and its last actions being to shriek loudly as it comes crumpling down to nothing. In the end, James lost his life, but he avenged Hannah and countless others felling his arch-enemy.
