2112: The Birth of Doraemon is a Doraemon short movie, released in 1995 on a double-bill with Doraemon: Nobita's Diary Of The Creation Of The World showcasing the birth of Doraemon and his first days living in the future, showing the cat robot's life before meeting Nobita, how he ended up being owned by Sewashi, how he lost his ears and how he turned blue.

2112: The Birth of Doraemon contains examples of:

  • Accidental Bid: Sewashi's parents explain to Doraemon that their son pushed the bidding button accidentally, but they end up reluctantly hiring Doraemon partly due to impracticality, pity, and Sewashi instantly bonding with the robot cat.
  • Accidental Hero: When Sewashi is held hostage by Dorumanstein and Black Mask in order to drive the time patrol away, Doraemon just so happen to pass by in high speed after unwittingly drank "Denko Sekka" and launch himself toward their aircraft to jam it by complete accident, rescuing Sewashi and foiling their escape in the process.
  • Author Avatar: Fujiko F. Fujio appears at the movie's beginning and ending.
  • Big Eater: Due to his malfunction, Doraemon develops this habit as he eats more than his other cat robot companions. He also shares this trait with Jaides as they both have a bigger plate of food in comparison to their classmates.
  • The Bully: Jaides and Sunekuchi bully Doraemon similarly to how Nobita is bullied by Gian and Suneo.
  • Childhood Brain Damage: Principal Teraodai rightly deduces that Doraemon falling from a high place could be one of the reasons for the robot's underperformance.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Upon losing his ears, Doraemon tries to cheer up by drinking "The Source of Enthusiasm", but mistakenly drinks "The Bane of Gloom", falling into despair as he cries for three days straight, losing his yellow painting and developing a raspy voice.
  • Expy: Many of the robots of the future are designed to be the future counterparts of characters from the past, with robots designed to look like Gian, Suneo, and Sensei for example. This even applies to Doraemon as he takes the role of Nobita.
  • Failure Montage: This happens twice to Doraemon, first by failing every test that his fellow robot cat can easily do, and during his audition, where despite his best efforts the cat robot fails to keep people invested in him with his clumsy performance.
  • Ill-Timed Sneeze: In the middle of the operation, a fly lands on Doraemon's nose and causes him to sneeze, accidentally distracting the doctor and releasing unwanted gadgets that ultimately destroy the remains of Doraemon's ears.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Dorumanstein and Black Mask hyperdrive wrapping in order to escape the time patrol causes multiple errors at the Matsushiba Robot Factory, with one of their victims being Doraemon as he's hit by a lightning bolt caused by their actions. Near the movie's end, their heist against Sewashi is ultimately thawed by the robot they messed up with in the past out of complete accident.
    • Noramyako gets her jaw dislocated due to laughing at Doraemon when he lost his ears at the hospital.
  • Love at First Sight: Doraemon instantly falls in love with Noramyako upon meeting her. It helps that she saved him from being accidentally melted away.
  • Origins Episode: The movie serves as this as it shows the origins of Doraemon's origins and how Fujiko F. Fujio came up with the very idea of Doraemon.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Doraemon is small, rounder, and clumsier in comparison to Noramyako, who is taller, slim, and elegant.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Happens twice to Doraemon
    • As he was near finished, Doraemon is shocked by terrorists, falls from the conveyor which is at a high place and almost falls into a deadly industrial furnace.
    • Later on, in less than a day, Doraemon's ears are damaged by a robot mouse that mistook Sewashi's orders, develops a fear of mice as a result, has his ears destroyed during an operation and his girlfriend laughs at him after the operation. No wonder he becomes depressed.
  • Tube Travel: Doraemon is accidentally sent to the industrial furnace, and later to his remedial classes in this way.
