The classic HEBS logo

Public Health Scotland (previously known as the Health Education Board for Scotland (HEBS) and NHS Health Scotland) is Scotland's national public health body and has distributed many public information films in Scotland over the years.

Provides examples of:

  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: A couple of ads from the early 2000s aimed to encourage people to be better parents:
    • In one advert, man ignores his daughter's request to take her out on her bike because he wants to watch the football. But then he flashes back to The '70s and remembers getting the brush-off from his own father and changes his mind.
    • Another ad in the same campaign from above shows a mother and her young son talking enthusiastically about a party he went to. Then, we cut to the future, where he is now a teenager, and she asks about his new girlfriend, and he talks all about her, with the message being that parents should listen to their children so that they will talk to you later.
  • The Promise: One advert shows a dying woman in hospital asking her young son to promise her that he'll never smoke.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: "Reminder" is about a teenage girl gradually remembering that she made a fool of herself by getting drunk at a party where the boy she fancies happened to see her.
