Project Horizons - Chapter 12: Denial

Blackjack opens the chapter by yelling at Chapel for letting the ponies from the last chapter suicide. He says it's their choice to make, but what if he's as helpful as Half-Incompetent? Anyways, the argument seems to accomplish nothing except making NJ angst and wonder if other people would have tried stopping her if she tried to an hero.

BL decides to make one last sweep of the surrounding area. When she returns to town, she finds that Sekashi had arrived. The zebra gives us the lowdown on what happened: Blackjack triggered the Memory Orb trap, encountered U-21, got attacked by Country Music Star's forced, some Pegasi came, and chaos erupted. Now Blackjack has to go on two rescue missions to save P-21 and Glory.

The two get into a conversation about males and Miss Misandry brings up the breeding queue. I hope she gets rendered sterile. Anyways, Security sets off to save her friends. She puts on DJ PON3 and gets treated to news of her latest exploits within the museum. A drunk, dangerous pony singing about whiskey could quite possibly be a very great deterrent.

Blackjack encounters a group of red blips on her EFS. She tries to pull the trigger to kill them... but instead inspects closer. It's four ponies tied up with radroaches on their backs. A trap set up by Virgo Zodiac. That's wonderful. I'm sure you two would be be good drinking buddies.

A single question later and Virgo should really seek out Littlepip for questions about PipBucks. Also Blackjack asks about the trap and the terminal. Virgo responds by telling him of everything. Yep, the greatest of bounty hunters. Thank you so much, Virgo, for being as smart as Security.

Speaking of which, she completely renders Virgo's trap completely useless in under a minute, causing the robots to go berserk on each other and setting off the minefield with the terminal. It help blows up all the robots. BJ fires a bullet at Virgo's butt and sends the little filly off scampering scared. She releases the pony bait used in the trap and is sent on her way to rescue Morning Glory from th Enclave.

She finds a place to rest for the night, but has trouble going to sleep, so she decides to listen to some of P-21's audio logs. We're treated to more initials of pony names... including BJ. There are three audio files with those initials. The first one shows us that BJ knew P-21 back when he was P-1.

A small world after all. Then again, all stables are small.

Blackjack reaches the air station that Glory's being held at and encounters an Enclave soldier and tries to take him own without killing him. Since BJ is stupid, we can't let that happen. So instead, the Enclave soldier breaks his neck and dies. She loots the dead body, enters a locker room, and loots some more. Wouldn't be a Fallout Equestria fic without any looting.

More searching commences and something finally goes right for Blackjack for a change. She doesn't have to kill anyone! Instead, she glues a couple pegasi to the floor and tapes them up, safe and sound. I didn't know BJ was into that sort of thing. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised, given her stable lifestyle.

More searching and looting and some radroach killing later, BJ finds what I suspect to be a trap. A Memory Orb laying on a rail outside of a window. She promptly falls for it and enters the memory.

It's of Vanity and Jetstream discussing the death of Stonewing and how Jetstream feels guilty over it. She doesn't seem to be taking it well at all.

>“I keep seeing him fall. I keep seeing that bastard shooting him. I keep going back there, Vanity! To that second. And it’s ripping my head apart!”

That mare needs therapy.

Vanity then agrees to go Glimmerlight and have her memories removed. The orb ends there, and as Half-Incompetent wakes up from the memory, and yep, it was a trap. She's tied up in tape with The Enclave surrounding her. And... wait,

What?

Morning Glory set the trap up?

TRAITOR! I call hax! The chapter can't end this way! I demand a recount!

Wow, this is a fun liveblog so far. I read the original FO:E, and I felt really disappointed. Poor pacing, shitty protagonists (OK, Steelhooves was interesting, and Calamity had his moments), felt pretty dull for a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by magical ponies, Memory Orb side-stories were more interesting than Pip's sex life and self-pitying, the list is a bit long. Am hesitant on reading Project Horizons, because while it definitely seems interesting, the liveblog isn't giving me the best impression.
