Why I Find Japanese Protagonists to be Bland

Okay, I found the fish pretty easy, but seriously those things are like tiny.

And lemmie get this straight, you can only collect green coconuts? You only decide to make sense now game?

You know what? I kind of like Wakka. His hair is stupid to high heaven but his accent's kind of cool and I always had a thing for unique weapons and to be honest, I like the volleyball thing.

Which reminds me, you know why I'm not entirely endeared to Sora? Pure and simple, the fact he gets a Keyblade later. All stories, not just Japanese ones but they're them sort prevalent, have their hero using a melee weapon. It's almost always a sword, but if it's not the sword you can bet your accent it's some stick-like melee weapons that is either sharp or pointy or both.

Ichigo Kurosaki, Yoh Asakura, Crono, Edward Elric (Yes this si technically not entirely true but he's usually quick to make a spear out of the dirt or make his metal arm a blade as his priamry weapon.), Ness(Yes, baseball bats still fall under the handheld melee category.), Link(Yes, He is my favorite character in my favorite game series ever but I love his versatility and I'm always more likely to use a seed shooter, bow and arrow, or a ball and chain before his sword.). I mean what is up with this? I want more unique weapons, I love unique wepaons and I'd pay to see a Zelda-esque or KH-esque game with a more unique primary weapon system like a yo-yo, a shield(I know I know, but you get what I mean....), a grappling gun, a ball, a drill, or my personal favorite, fists.

I've always been a fan of the idea of customizable fists. Like alternate brass knuckles, like knuckles that fire energy blasts or knuckles that punch things from afar, or fistigons. Summon Night: Swordcraft Story sort of got that right and my preferred weapons were the drills and knuckles in those games, but you know what? They botch that up too. In the SN games, the most beneficial weapon to make is the sword. Swords are always the weapon you're given a new recipe for by the plot, swords are the most even and versatile weapons that outweigh the disadvantages of the other weapons easily and quickly. You have to work to be competent with anything else or get recipes for them.

The next custscene mentions Riku's changed. yeah he's changed... Change to be EVIL!

OOH! OOH! Back to Mickey Donald and Goofy!

The stars are disappearing Oh noes! go mickey, go do right by the world! I'm sure you can rely on your two bestest best friends. And Jiminy along for the ride! Totally awesome, we need a conscious around, amirite?

Interesting.. so.. Worlds are "Disappearing" Interesting. And there's an order. This sounds fascinating, like the world Mickey is in is like the central hub to an entire universe that are maintained individually like some twisted form of reality.

Oh cool, Chip and Dale run the engineering stuff? You know I like this world, the giant gloved hands lifting up our heroes to their ship, all the Disney esque silly we could want.

And Goofy's patented scream? Priceless.

Wait...

Key... Someone has a Key. Like Sora.....

Not gonna lie, I hate any and all The Chosen One plots. Which means this is gonna bite. Hard. You better be as impressive as people say game

Scene change. Destiny island again.

Wait... SORA HAS A MOTHER!? WHAT THE HELL!? And these kids are just going to run off on a raft they built themselves and not arouse suspicion from their families? No search party? You know what? Kids on a rinky dink raft on their own? I hope they get killed, becuase that's what's going to happen for their stupidity. Storms, sharks, starvation, sun stroke, skin cancer, the whole nine yards.

Hell there's a storm about to go n right now, and of course Sora goes to check on the raft for some reason and we see a portal of darkness and heartless about to kill a brat.

Intriguing.

If it makes you feel better, there's this character in KHII:FM that has a habit of turning his Keyblade into everything.
Except you're the one fighting against him. Which means you get your butt kicked.
Plus, it's only in japan D:

Sora also has a dad, don't cha know?

You're gonna get pleasantly suprised on one of the things you mentioned. Things aren't always as they seem.

You can also do a bit of this in Birth by Sleep. Terra has a command that turns his Keyblade into a BFG and has him blast the [expletive deleted] out of everything. Sadly, that's about it (the Keyblades can also turn into Gummi Ship-like transports, but they're not used as weapons).

Funny thing is, about that mother of Sora that you mention. Never appears again in the series, never is mentioned again in the series. Ah, Japan...

Personally I find beating the crap out of people with a giant key awesome and unique.

You're racist toward Japanse protagonists, of course!

But that doesn't make sense, Link is my favorite character from my favorite game serious of all time and Yoh is pretty awesome.
