In which the hospital visit goes wrong. Very wrong.

After a small detour of playing blackjack, Yukino, Mark, and Nanjo drag Nat to the Hospital. Thanks to a wait, we head off to visit Maki, for whom Mark seems to visit quite often. I'm smelling a crush here. And a quick check with the receptionist confirms that yes, Maki is in room 302 like Mark said. And hiding behind an Atlus vending machine is everyone favorite butler, Yamaoka! Who seems to be spying on the young master. Sure we'll keep your status a secret, if you can buy some Fountain Dew for us!

One soda later, we head off into the hospital. We do find an old man in one of the lobbies who thinks we are his grandson. Ah well, let's humor him! He gives us deep advice on people's souls and how what they appear to be isn't what they might truely be and that we should REACH OUT FOR THE TRUTH! -ahem- He said dig out but...

Anyway, to room 302! Maki is being tended to by a doctor who suggests that she'd go out of the room from time to time. He gets no response. He then notices us and heads off. When he leaves, she perks up. She gives Mark her thanks, stating she wanted to see the others the next time. Yukino covers for him stating that was the purpose and also tells Maki about that book Yuko borrowed. Maki states she has it memorized so she doesn't mind. Maki remarkes she seems to be doing much better since she's been having a good dream about a fatherly man. Philemon? Yukino asks if it was like the doctor. Maki states she doesn't like him. Nothing in particular, she just doesn't like doctors. Well...I guess being cooped up in a hospital may adjust you against them but...he seemed okay. Mark then asks about her mother and her work at SEBEC. Cueing Maki to cry out that she hates her mother and talking to a nurse earlier revealed that her mother hasn't visited her once. Which is odd...something going on at work? But then...Maki lets out a Big "NO!" and cluthces her head and...

CUTSCENE! The group is waiting in front of the ICU when an earthquake strikes! A big one! When it subsides, Mark tries to run into the ICU to check on Maki and the door opens...to a wall! What the-?! A scream pierces forth and thus the team investigates.

To find a lobby filled with zombies! EEEEK! The nurse states that these are dead paitents and that an old man rescued her...wait...that's Yamaoka! Nanjo is enraged at this and so begins a battle! A scripted one. One of the zombies attack me and misses and then...

Thou art I...and I am thou...From the sea of thy soul, I cometh...I shall lend you my strength.

Cue everyone gaining their Personas and beating up the zombies. Along with gaining a level up.

Nanjo cries out for his...father figure and pleads for him not to go. Yaomaoka says his goodbyes and asks Nanjo if he can promise to become the #1 man in Japan. Nanjo makes it.

Last Words of Yamaoka: "I will always be...in your heart..."

-sniff-

Yukino heads over to comfort him but Mark tells her to leave him be.

Mark then asks if we heard it, the "Thou arts" and all. Yukino comfirms the same thing. And so we gain our Persona's and venture into our first dungeon. The Hospital of the Undead. (Unoffical title by me)

A nearby room grants us some helments and some medicines and gives us a chance to look at our equipment and statuses. How...does Mark have an Axe with him? Razors for Yukino I can understand but...

Our Personas are for right now

Nat- Seimen Kongou of the Emperor Arcana (Others of this arcana are Akihiko and Kanji)

Nanjo- Aiizen Myouou of the Hieropant Arcana (Also known for the Social Links of the bookstore couple and Dojima)

Mark- Ogun of the Chariot Arcana (Aigis and Chie are of this arcana and social links were of Kazushi/Rio)

Yukino- Vesta of the Empress Arcana (Mitsuru is of this arcana and so is the Socal Link of Margaret)

We also make it to the tree save point without fighting any monsters. Huh. But as soon as we get to the top we get to our first fight. Knowledge from Persona 2 tells me that I should use my Personas as often as I can and so the fight goes off without a hitch. I alternate between battling and contacting and so our next battle, we plead with a poltergeist who shall not be persuaded by Mark dancing crazy! (I did use it against him until I remembered that fact) While I didn't manage to get him eager enough to give us his Spell Card, which is nessary for fusion. I got him happy enough by bribing him. Ah well, time for Mark to brag to Pixie's. Since she liked both of his dancing and his bragging, we got a gem on top of the spell card. Good day for all!

We also find the old man again, who tells us to stay calm in order to find the truth. Thank you very much. Despite your memory loss, you're proving to be quite nice!

After a succesful contact with a Poltergeist and a few more battles, we make it to the save tree. A quick save and we head off, to defeat more demons and make more contacts leveling up Nat, Mark and Yukino. We find a spot to heal up before heading back up. Failing to contact a zombie nurse leads us to fighting back, leveling up Nanjo at the process. The next save tree is found and I make an alternate save for a different use later on...

We get to the enterence again...to find a nurse stuck under a vending machine! Yukino tells us to help her out while Nanjo points out that we have no time. Being The Hero, I feel the need to help this lady out. But no luck, here come the zombies but what is this? Help arrives! And her name is Eriko!

Another scripted battle begins with Mark taking out a zombie before it could touch her but then one attacks! It misses...for Nike is to awaken! Also, we all gain a level up which is sweat! We are all now at level 8 for the record.

Elly seems to be stunned about her Persona awakening. Yukino tells her to snap out of it...but she seems very happy that her other self is the goddess of victory. Mark tells her that they can do it as well. Nanjo asks if she dreamed of a butterfly and she says yes. Elly then tells us that Maki's mother is at the shrine and so we have a new destination in sight for us!

And so we run off to the nearest save tree, which is in the mall...only to be met with demons! A simple dance for a Zombie Boy will deal with that! But then we get attacked by Cait Sith. Hmm. That Persona was recommended to me. Ah well, still a battle turn. Into the mall. Some stores, such as the Rosa Candia and the Peace Diner are closed but Tadasi Pharmacy, the sweet store and Yin&Yang are open. Though people are complaining that there are no weapons for sale. Hmm.

Anyway, it looks like this is it for the night! Good luck to all of you in your homes! Hope you got weapons to fight these demons. Any tips you can give will always be appreciated. See ya later everyone!

Ah, one of the mysteries of the Persona world. Why did Mark have that axe? He was apparently carrying it with him all along!

Also, I know the alternate file was for the SQQ. I'd grind a bit on that file before getting the free level up from Eriko's awakening. Even if you do the towers in order, the timed nature of the dungeons and the first boss's Wake Up Call Boss status might throw you off if you go in with the same levels you'd go into the SEBEC quest with.

Also, as for the Persona call out, you forgot that Shinji and Metis from P3 are Hierophants, and to properly introduce Nike, who is a Judgement (however, Eriko is the only Judgement party member who has it by default. The P3 guy has it as his ultimate Persona's arcana though)

So... dancing brings about fusion materials in this game? So glad Igor and Elizabeth don't demand that I dance like a monkey for their amusement before fusing stuff for me. That would make the process so much more demeaning...

There's a whole contact system for communicating with the demons. Depending on the person and the response, you can get the demons to be eager (netting us a Spell Card for fusions), happy (taken alone will just make the demon like you but combo it with an eager and you'll sometimes get something alongside the card), angry (yeah...they attack if they get mad) or scared. (Run away!) The object is to get them to be eager but it's easier said than done.

Improved in Persona 2 and done away with (in favor of Shadows and Social Links) in Persona 3.

Hey, a Shout Out to Strain42! I've been a fan of his ever since stumbling across FTW; others may diss the simplistic style, but I think it adds to the decent humour that's already there.

As for your liveblog, as always, I think that you're doing a great job and I hope you keep it up...though I must agree with Otherarrow about grinding if you're going through the sidepath. In my own playthrough, I may have overdone it with 15+ levels worth of pumping up the main character's magic stat, but it sure boosted my confidence.
