So you are listening to a story. The story depicts something happening in the past and the teller ends the story with something that doesn't make sense within the context of the story. For example someone telling an epic Pirate story may end it by saying "And that is why we have cheese." without the story having anything to do with cheese at all.

Needless to say Cloudcuckoolanders are prone to this.
