Section 8

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Needs a Better Title Needs More Examples Do We Have This? So.. the heroes belong to some division that fights crime but due to some burocratic stuff, the traitor being the leader, the division is falling apart, etc. They leave that division only to find in no time that there existes Section8 in which everyone is happier, they disregard boring burocratic methods (or most of them) and the pay is better.

Trope namer is Artemis Fowl

Examples:
  • In The Simpsons when they move to the west coast and Homer is the employee of a Big Bad. They had to left though, because only he enjoyed that city.
  • In the Power Rangers when the new big bad appears and beat them, they always found another place with better and stronger powers. Leaders may remain the same, but its more or less the idea.

Not sure I understand. When I hear "Section 8", I think of Corporal Klinger and the whole "You're too crazy for the army, so we're sending you home" thing.

Maybe It Needs A Better Title What I meant is that it exists another organization better in all ways than the previous organization that, too, fights crime (or plays football, saves the ecology, etc)

Invoked in Nanoha Striker S: Hayate realizes the need for a unit more agile and independent than the regular Bureau divisions and sets out to Start Her Own, which becomes known as Riot Force 6.

In American Dad, Stan thinks his father works for one of these (compared to the CIA). He's really a Gentleman Thief.

Ghost in the Shell series: Public Peace Section 9. Interestingly, it becomes more large, slow, and bureaucratic in Solid State Society, a tradeoff which Aramaki and Togusa do not necessarily feel at ease with.

Alpha Protocol: The titular organization, plus others encountered within the game.

When I hear Section 8, I think of a Lower Deck Episode of Ghost in the Shell

In Gotham City, Gordon's division (Major Crimes Unit) is this compared with the rest of the GCPD. It's pretty much the only division with any honest cops left.

Also, definitely Needs A Better Title. I thought this was about Men In Black, the scene at the beginning where J claims to be from Section 6 and the cop is like "There is no Section 6."
