Rolling Updates, Needs a Better Description (maybe a paragraph about its history), formerly known as Good Old Games, is a digital distributor of video games for Windows and Mac OS. Owned indirectly by Cyprian video game studio CD Projekt RED, is best known for ports of titles from The '80s and The '90s to modern operating systems, though they also have a decent catalog of current releases as well (primarily indie games rather than AAA titles).

One of their major advertising points is the fact that they distribute their games without DRM, in contrast to services such as Steam and Origin. In addition the older games in their catalog are all re-coded to run properly on modern systems, and usually include lots of feelies such as soundtracks, manuals, and forum avatars, as well as scans of feelies that came with the original game (maps, comics, and the like).

Compare Steam and DESURA.

If you have a game to add, go ahead and add it to the draft. If you have a description modification, add a comment.

You do know that YKTTW pages for work pages and creator pages are optional?

In fact, it's only required for tropes.

You can launch this at any time you want to and still follow current policy.

^Yes, I know, I was just trying to get some description help. This is going up when it hits the three day mark.

Added the Sierra games, grouped them in bundles otherwise it'd take over the entire list.

Here's the rest of my quickie list: Arkady Darell if someone gets to it before I do. I need a break. Finished.

^Added the ones we have pages for.

Did you seriously copy down their entire catalog? Wow.
  • January 30, 2013
^ It wasn't that hard, honestly. I chose to view the whole catalog on their website, sorted it alphabetically, then did some LibreOffice special expressions search and replace voodoo on it.

After that it was mostly just tweaking everything into the exact wicks .

And I wish I could think of some suggestions for the description itself, but those have never been my strong point.

Possibly mention the fact that GOG's other main draws are that the porting it does actually updates its often old games to work better on modern systems (or at least make that clearer), and that it also often offers lots of extras as downloads for each game. (With manuals, forum avatars, and computer wallpapers being standard, but some games also have things like digital soundtracks, creator bibles, and scans of feelies like maps and comics that came with the original game.) Also could mention that its non-retro games tend to be indie offerings rather than AAA titles.

I just discovered this already exists: Good Old Games

It's pretty stubby, though, so there's no reason it couldn't be overwritten or turned into a redirect.
  • February 1, 2013
    ^Sounds like a plan.
  • February 1, 2013
^ It's inaccurate now anyway, since officially GOG no longer stands for anything. The site isn't called Good Old Games any more.
