Woman Warrior Wear

A Missing Supertrope about combat clothing specifically for women.

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
A Sub-Trope of Gendered Outfit, this trope is specifically about what women of fiction wear into combat, ranging from the skimpy to the glamorous to the tough. This trope also covers weapons and accessories. The gender disparity can be justified if there are different uniforms for each gender.

If one character wears multiple items on this list, you have an Action Fashionista.

You want examples of an Action Girl who wears outfits that aren't already on the list but not skimpy? You want "Alice wears practical clothes?"

Shouldn't this be just an index?

That's basically what it will be.

^^ No. The index is "What women wear into combat", period.

@captainpa: Isn't that what this already is?

It looks like an index but it says that it's a super trope and doesn't say index in the way to show up as one with this [[index]] before and after. I'm still not sure if he wants tropes or examples of "woman wearing clothes in combat."

A lot of supertropes are really just indexes, but I'm not sure all the examples of this one would be covered in the subtropes.

If this is a supertrope, though, it needs to be fleshed out into an actual trope. To start with, I notice that a lot of these tropes are impractical, fall under Rule Of Sexy (while being Always Female or not being so sexy on males), and/or are stereotypically feminine.

The trope is basically that women need different actionwear than guys in the first place, even when it doesn't make sense. A sports bra or combat bustier is one thing (women need the support as much as men need cups), but a Gendered Outfit strictly for the sake of gendering an outfit is ludicrous.

Bumping. Could be a useful index.

Yes, this needs Rolling Updates. Is the original poster still active? Or is this Up For Grabs?

Agreed that this is a supertrope we need.

^ But do we deserve it? :D

It is justifiable if male and female warriors traditionally wear different costumes on campaign in a given culture. After all much of warrior wear is not functional but Bling Of War.

I took the liberty of sorting the tropes alphabetically.

    Would Modesty Shorts count?

If this is a supertrope it needs examples that doens't fit the subtropes. It also need to be fleshed out. What is this trope? How would examples look like? It also needs a real laconic that describe the trope itself instead of the "A Missing Supertrope..."

Removed the hat, this isn't ready for launch.

if there is Women Warrior Wear (and the obvious unisex wear like armor and stuff which doesn't need a page), is there a Spear Counterpart?

@below, hmm, yeah, guess you're right.

Since "warrior" is traditionally considered a masculine profession I'd imagine Man Warrior Wear would just be stuff warriors wear (in the same way that Action Girl is a trope, but its SC is Non Action Guy).

I don't think this would be a Missing Supertrope. This is pretty much an index. :P

Does Power Hair fall under this (even if hair isn't an article of clothing, we do speak of wearing one's hair a certain way).

I'd personally say no, although it sounds like it could belong to a sister trope about beauty and battle along with Femme Fatalons and other forms of Anatomy Arsenal.

Maybe we should add an index with "others common clothes", clothes that's not stricly action clothes, but that's still commonly used by Action Girls.

Like Modesty Shorts and Who Wears Short Shorts.

Regarding the supertrope versus index thing: We don't have an independent trope for armor that is completely practical but still has the breasts on the chestplate. I've seen it linked as Breast Plate, but that's a redirect to Chainmail Bikini. Examples: Star Trek Online [1], Mass Effect 2 [2]

^ Then make one YKTTW for real Breast Plate.
