In Midnight Cowboy Ratso is streetwise, small in stature, and has a bad leg. The bigger and buffer Joe Buck is naive, if sexually precocious.

The characters Nick Andros and Tom Cullen in The Stand (novel and film), who travelled together much of the way to Abigail Fremantle's homestead in Nebraska following the Captain Trips pandemic. Andros was smaller in stature and was generally the more savvy of the pair (although he was mute), while Cullen (who could speak) was much larger in stature but was mildly mentally handicapped.

    • Dungeons And Dragons module T1 The Village of Hommlet. Two of the NPCs staying in the Inn of the Welcome Wench are the monk Turuko and the fighter Kobort. Turuko is small, thin and clever (the brains of the pair), and Kobort is a large, not too bright fellow.
