The van very nearly runs over Penny, who Hammer "saves" by pushing her into garbage, and is only stopped when Billy regains control and hits the brakes, but in the process making it look like Hammer stopped it himself, which Hammer plays up to his advantage. That and his treatment of Billy himself more than cements just [[SmugSuper what kind of guy]] this guy really is.
