!Sonic's World | (Video Game Universe)

[[foldercontrol]]

!!Team Sonic

[[folder: Sonic The Hedgehog]]
All-around hero of his world, having fought against many conquering villains and destructive monsters with his super speed.

* AllLovingHero: True to the games, he's friendly and compassionate in spite of his DeadpanSnarker nature, and even vouching for Chaos when the rest of the cast are visibly freaked out by him.
* BloodKnight: Downplayed example, but he does admit in the first chapter that he's bored without Eggman to fight, and makes no attempt to hide his delight when Angel Island drops out of the sky, kick-starting the plot- and another adventure.
* BlueIsHeroic: He is the ''Blue Blur'', after all.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: Says this outright in Chapter 29 (Rocks Like This), adding that he wouldn't be caught dead using one in a CallBack to ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: [[spoiler:Downplayed, but upon meeting Zonic in Chapter 32 (Planetary Pieces), Sonic has mixed feelings about his serious, law-abiding counterpart.]]
* SuperSpeed: The defining trait of his character.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Miles "Tails" Prower]]
Sonic’s closest friend and a scientific hero in his own right.

* BestFriend: To Sonic since his debut in ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2''.
* ChildProdigy: Outright stated to be one.
* DeadpanSnarker: Gets in a good few sly, good-natured jabs at Sonic in the first chapter alone.
* DistressedDude: Implied to have played this role in the past, only for Sonic to point that he's more likely to be the one doing the saving these days.
* FatalFlaw: According to Sonic, it's not that he's especially prideful or considers himself superior because of his intellect; his biggest weakness is that he sometimes forgets not everybody is as smart as he is.
* HumbleHero: Notably downplays his own accomplishments.
* KidHero: At eight years old, he's already saved (and helped Sonic save) the world on several occasions by the time the story commences.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Knuckles the Echidna]]
Last of the Echidnas, he guards the Master Emerald while secluding himself on Angel Island, but is counted on by Sonic and the others as a hero and a friend.

* AloofAlly: Downplayed example to Sonic and the rest of the mainstream game cast, at first. The fact that Carlos addresses him as "commander" implies that he's eventually going to grow into a leadership role, similar to his depiction in ''VideoGame/SonicForces''.
* BadassInDistress: The rest of the cast assume he must be this, when Angel Island falls out of the sky.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Rouge, per the games.
* BerserkButton: Shattering the Master Emerald and trespassing on his island. The Emerald Network find this out the hard way.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: Seems to be a contributing factor to his hostility and suspicion towards the Emerald Network.
* LastOfHisKind: Initially set to be this, before the introduction(s) of [[spoiler:Slate, Shade and Tikal]]. There's also a very real possibility we might see more echidnas in future chapters...
* OneManArmy: Holds his own against a squad of professional soldiers and knocks seven bells out of them. Somewhat downplayed given that (most of them) weren't aiming to kill him.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Mild subversion. He's a dutiful guardian of the Master Emerald, but was dismayed to learn of Pachachamac's warmongering ways, and his commitment to his duty stems largely from the fact that he doesn't want to make the same mistakes as his ancestors.
* StrongAndSkilled: Aside from his SuperStrength, he's fast and agile enough to intercept a flying kick from Redcell and block strikes from Sahara's machete, noting that whoever trained her did a pretty good job.
* WouldHitAGirl: He's about ready to knock Ash's block off when the Emerald Network first materialize in the present-day Hidden Palace Zone. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], considering she was an armed stranger who'd just appeared in his home and was ostensibly responsible for destroying the Master Emerald.
* WouldHurtAChild: As with the above example, he's perfectly willing to knock Sahara on her ass- which, again, is pretty justified considering she was coming at him with a [[MacheteMayhem machete]].

[[/folder]]

!!Team Dark

[[folder: Shadow The Hedgehog]]
The Ultimate Lifeform, he has an uneasy rivalry with Sonic, but nonetheless, is mostly on the same side as him as an agent of G.U.N.

* BadassArmfold: A signature pose of his from the games, which he's also seen doing here.
* ByronicHero: A moody, brooding, headstrong hero, haunted by his DarkAndTroubledPast? Yep, that's our boy.
* CarpetOfVirility: Has a big, fluffy mane of white fur on his chest.
* ConsummateProfessional: Where Rouge has a breezy, sometimes flirtatious nature and Omega is a TriggerHappy BloodKnight, Shadow is generally shown to be the most serious and mission-oriented of Team Dark.
* DeadpanSnarker: Not quite to the extent that Rouge is, but he gets a few jabs in.
* DeathGlare: Gives one to Sonic after it transpires that they've been running around Angel Island for twenty minutes despite his insistence that they weren't lost.
* IneffectualLoner: Downplayed.
* KnightInSourArmor: It's made obvious in his internal narration that in spite of how jaded and cynical he appears, nothing is more important to him than carrying out Maria's wish of bringing hope to humanity.
* TheLancer: To Rouge’s leader.
* PerpetualFrowner: Just like in the games, his default expression is a scowl, and his dry delivery means he doesn't even smile when he's making a joke.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: he warps Royce to Angel Island with the Chaos Emerald, staying behind to buy time for him to get to the Hidden Palace Zone. He's [[KilledOffScreen not seen again]] in the future after Chapter 2 (Into The Wind).]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: In the BadFuture, where it's implied he's widely regarded as a traitor for as-yet unrevealed reasons.
* NotSoStoic: The narration to Chapter 6 (Waking Up) states that he had to restrain from one of Rouge's quips.
* ShockAndAwe: He can channel Chaos Energy into his Chaos Spear attack, which strikes his targets like a bolt of lightning.
* SignatureMove: Chaos Control in general, which he uses to teleport and also for directed energy attacks.
* SuperSpeed: A trait he shares with Sonic.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Sonic, whose laid-back optimism chafes against his more focused and cynical nature.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Omega in particular.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Rouge the Bat]]
A seductive and well-accomplished treasure hunter, she’s her team’s official leader.

* BadassNormal: Has no special abilities beyond [[WingedHumanoid flight]] (an innate ability of her species rather than a superpower), but her experience as a jewel thief- sorry, [[InsistentTerminology ''treasure hunter'']]- and a G.U.N. intelligence operative make her more than qualified to lead [[BadassCrew Team Dark]].
%%* DarkActionGirl: (Anti-)heroic example.
* DeadpanSnarker: Easily the snarkiest member of Team Dark, and arguably one of the snarkiest members of the entire cast. Practically every other thing that comes out of her mouth is a zinger directed at someone else, or a dry observation about their current situation.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Relic is one of several characters to observe how elegant and shapely Rouge is.
* HiddenDepths: In contrast to her usual characterization as a ClassyCatBurglar, Rouge is shown to have a rather refined appreciation of gemstones here- not just precious stones, to Relic's surprise. She's able to identify hue percentages by sight alone, remarks that synthetic amethyst only replicates the hardness of the real thing, and even knows that the word ''amethyst'' stems from the Ancient Apotosian [[FantasyCounterpartCulture (Greek)]] word meaning "not-intoxicated", due to the belief that it would prevent drunkenness.
%%* TheLeader: Of Team Dark.
* LovableAlphaBitch: She does seem to take great pleasure in teasing Relic, even if it's (mostly) good-natured and she's not outright aggressive towards her.
* TeamMom: Of Team Dark.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: E-123 Omega]]
Created by Dr. Eggman only to be discarded, Omega later became Shadow and Rouge’s teammate when their paths crossed.

* ArmCannon: One on each hand, each boasting several retractable weapons including miniguns, flamethrowers,
* TheBigGuy: Of Team Dark.
* BloodKnight: Downplayed. He has a gleeful propensity for violence, but won't turn his weapons on anyone without explicit permission from Shadow and Rouge. [[spoiler: That is, until the BadFuture...]]
* TheComicallySerious: To the point where it becomes impossible to tell if and when he ''is'' joking.
* EncyclopaedicKnowledge: Has extensive knowledge relating to just about everything from technology to the occult. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], in that he's a robot and can access G.U.N.'s files on these things even if his own databanks don't contain that information.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Appears to have undergone one of these in the BadFuture.]]
* HeroicComedicSociopath: In spades. [[spoiler: it's not at all PlayedForLaughs in the future.]]
* ImplacableMan: [[spoiler: He pursues Royce like a monster out of a horror movie in the chapters set in the future, complete with OffScreenTeleportation. Just how the hell ''did'' he get to Angel Island that fast?]]
* KillerRobot: PlayedForLaughs in the present-day chapters. [[spoiler: in the bad future, not so much.]]
* NoSell: [[spoiler: Shrugs off just about everything that Shadow throws at him, to say nothing of the rest of the Resistance. Small arms fire just bounces off his armor, and [[DroppedABridgeOnHim ''literally'' dropping a bridge on him]] only slows him down for a few moments.]]
* LiteralMinded: It's unclear whether or not he's joking or even just finds the term silly, but he repeatedly expresses confusion about the word ''babysitting'', wondering aloud why anyone would sit on a baby.
* LivingMotionDetector: He detects Relic and Fixit approaching before they get a proper introduction.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His GlowingMechanicalEyes indicate that [[spoiler: he's managed to track Royce to the Hidden Palace Zone.]]
* RobotBuddy: Outright referred to as such by Charmy, and threatens to remove his limbs in "a medically dubious fashion" if he ever does it again.
* SpockSpeak: Generally speaks this way, but occasionally lapses into RoboSpeak per his characterization in the games.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Of Team Dark, which becomes HarsherInHindsight [[spoiler: when he ''literally'' becomes evil in the future.]]
[[/folder]]

!! Team Rose

[[folder: Amy Rose]]
An AllLovingHero of a hedgehog much like her LoveInterest, Sonic, Amy occasionally heads a team of her own consisting of those who, like herself, are a FriendToAllLivingThings.
* CoolBigSis: Is this to her teammate, Cream, as shown in their reunion in chapter 30 (Strange Parade).
* HopelessSuitor: Has deep feelings for Sonic, and laments to Vanilla at how Sonic's doesn't seem to reciprocate them.
* SweetTooth: Her debut in chapter 24 (Everything), shows her liking Vanilla's baked cookies.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Cream the Rabbit & Cheese the Chao]]
A KidHero rarely far apart from her beloved pet.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: From her polite manners to her PurityPersonified mindset, Cream is definitely this.
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: Has trouble reconciling "friendly pirates" from children's books with the violent real deal.
* TheIdealist: Despite [[spoiler: Swash and Buckle's status as Blackguard Pirates]], Cream vouches for them to her friends as being helpful since they feared their BadBoss.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Big the Cat & Froggy]]
A fisherman residing in the jungle near Station Square with his pet frog named Froggy.
* [[BigFriendlyDog Big, Friendly Cat]]: It's exactly what he is as his debut in chapter 16 (We Three Kings) shows from guiding [[spoiler: Johnny Lightfoot and Sticks]] to the train station to covering the both of them with his umbrella when it starts to rain.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Despite his slow nature, his astute way of separating the means of "talking" and "saying" silenced [[spoiler: Johnny]] at how it sounded.
* MeaningfulName: Of course, since he's a GentleGiant literally named "Big", it caused quite a stir when he introduced himself to [[spoiler: Sticks]], who didn't get it at first.
[[/folder]]

!!The Chaotix

[[folder: Vector the Crocodile]]
The head honcho of the Chaotix.
* GeniusBruiser: Has a great degree of strength and is observant when it comes to detective work.
* SurvivorGuilt: Is distrodden when he can't find a waitress he was talking to prior to the flood in Station Square, even if the others tell him she wasn't there to begin with.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Has this with Blaze for one reason or another.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Espio the Chamelon]]
The GratuitousNinja of the Chaotix.
* TheLancer: The closest thing to a substitute leader when Vector isn't around to lead.
* OnlySaneMan: What he tries to be considering his teammates' personalities.
* NotSoStoic: Suppresses a laugh when Charmy describes Vector's traits in humorous detail to [[spoiler: Shade]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Charmy Bee]]
The youngest of the Chaotix.
* BrattyHalfPint: Likes to poke fun at his friends for his own amusement.
* HeroWorshipper: Has a high opinion of Sonic, Shadow, and, to a degree, Omega.
* {{Keet}}: Energetic to a fault.
[[/folder]]

!!Eggman Empire

[[folder: Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik]]
The ArchEnemy of Sonic, he’s a notorious MadScientist aspiring for [[TakeOverTheWorld world domination]].

* TheBadGuyWins: Has conquered the world in the BadFuture.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Rouge notes that for all his outlandish tendencies, he’s not above doing evil things.
* BigBad: The overall antagonist of the present and the tyrant of the Emerald Network’s future.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Both [[spoiler:Shorty and Tekno]] find mirth in the “Eggman” alias when they first hear of it.
* EmperorScientist: What he is to his Badnik creations.
* EvilIsNotAToy: Has attempted to control powerful beings from Chaos to Dark Gaia in his attempts for world domination with limited to no success.
* FalseFriend: Was this to Knuckles in their first meeting.
* TheGhost: Frequently mentioned, but hasn’t made a visible appearance yet, [[spoiler:even when the Omni-Viewer tries to locate him]].
* SpeakOfTheDevil: Strongly implied to have become this in the BadFuture to the point that the Emerald Network either wince or react violently at the mention of his real surname.
* WouldHurtAChild: His archenemies include teenage Sonic and the even younger Tails, and he’s more than willing to get rid of them in a permanent fashion.
[[/folder]]

!The Resistance

!!The Emerald Network

[[folder: Tropes applying to the Emerald Network in general]]

* ElitesAreMoreGlamorous: Downplayed. They're a special missions unit, but they get their ass kicked just as frequently as the rest of the Resistance and demonstrably couldn't halt Eggman's takeover of the planet.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: It's outright stated that the Resistance's special forces are a pretty ad-hoc formation.
* MixedAnimalSpeciesTeam: A wolf, a jackal, an oryx, a snow leopard, a domestic cat, a shark, a vampire bat, an echidna, a manticore, and a robot.
* MultinationalTeam: Though most of their backstories have yet to be expanded on, they're implied to be this right from the get-go.
* FightsLikeANormal: All of them have received at least some degree of special operations training, making extensive use of guns, bladed weapons and hand-to-hand combat in a world full of characters that attack with ElementalPowers, SuperSpeed and SuperStrength.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Ash and Sahara.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Royce the Sugar Glider]]

* BrokenPedestal: He's initially quite excited at meeting the legendary Shadow the Hedgehog, but is quickly disappointed by Shadow's brusque behavior.
* DecoyProtagonist: He's the first OriginalCharacter introduced in the story, and the importance of his mission to deliver the Chaos Emerald back to Resistance HQ is repeatedly stressed. He accomplishes his mission, but [[spoiler:he's KilledOffScreen.]]
* DoomedHometown: The Sugar Splash Zone from the fangame ''VideoGame/SonicAfterTheSequel'', which was invaded and either captured or destroyed by the Empire during the war.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Seems to be this, interestingly. Big-name fan artist [[http://joeadok.deviantart.com/ JoeAdok]] has featured him in several pieces of fan art, and several readers expressed disappointment at his death.
* NotQuiteFlight: Royce is able to glide in a similar manner to Ray from ''VideoGame/SonicMania''.
* SacrificialLion: He gets the Chaos Emerald to back to the Hidden Palace Zone, but [[spoiler:he's the only member of the Emerald Network to be killed off prior to the CosmicRetcon.]]
* SuperSenses: Downplayed, but present. Just like a real-life sugar glider, Royce has heightened senses including InnateNightVision.
* TraumaCongaLine: The poor kid has already had it rough by the time the story commences, and things only get worse from there, peppered with a cruel HopeSpot or two before [[spoiler: he’s finally KilledOffForReal.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Prime the Wolf]]

* FireForgedFriends: With the rest of the Emerald Network. He outright tells them ItHasBeenAnHonor right before the [[spoiler:the activation of the Genesis Wave.]]
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: Invokes this when the team are waiting for Royce to return from his mission. [[spoiler:Carlos is the only member of the Resistance to make it to the Emerald Chamber.]]
* SupportingLeader: Appears to be the ''de facto'' leader of the team, issuing orders and generally trying to maintain unit cohesion, but Carlos is the main focus of the Emerald Network's chapters once [[spoiler:Royce is out of the picture.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Carlos the Jackal]]

* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: After shooting one of his own teammates dead rather than watch them be crushed to death, he tells his comrades that he expects them to do the same for him.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: It's implied that he's unpopular with some members of the Resistance, likely due to his association with Shadow, who's regarded as a traitor in the BadFuture for as-yet unrevealed reasons.
* MeaningfulName: His name is a reference to Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, a Venezuelan terrorist and convicted murderer more (in)famously known as ''Carlos the Jackal''.
* MysteriousPast: It's not yet been revealed how or why he knows Shadow, who everyone else seems to regard with suspicion after a supposed betrayal at some point in the past.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Sparks the Cat]]

* DeadpanSnarker: Even when he's alone.
* EnergyAbsorption: He can absorb certain wavelengths of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum, though the origin and extent of these powers hasn't yet been made clear.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Seems to embody this, in a world full of RidiculouslyHumanRobots. Aside from his established friendship with Gemini, he displays kindness and compassion to a heavily damaged [[spoiler:Shard the Metal Sonic]] after inadvertently reactivating him, doing his best to repair him and trying his best to defend him without resorting to violence.
* MrFixit: He manages to fix up a badly damaged [[spoiler:Shard]] after stumbling across him in Mystic Jungle.
* PluckyComicRelief: Deconstructed. He tries to play this role, but just ends up pissing off his teammates by making ill-timed jokes. Reconstructed when his internal narrative reveals that he knows full well a lot of people don't appreciate his jokes; he just [[SadClown does it for the sake of the ones who do.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Gemini]]

* EliteMook: Being one of the E-100 Series of Super Badniks, Gemini was one of these before his MookFaceTurn.
* {{Expy}}: Of E-102 "Chaos Gamma", the version of Gamma that appeared in ''VideoGame/SonicBattle''. He also has shades of K-2SO from ''Film/RogueOne'', serving a similar role to Sparks that K2 did to Cassian Andor.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Sparks actually calls him out on this when he posits that [[spoiler:Shard]]- another reformed Badnik like him- can't be trusted due to his being Eggman Empire technology.
* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: A rare heroic example, though not entirely unusual in this series, which features other examples such as Gamma, Omega, and Emerl/Gemerl.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Slate the Echidna]]

* {{Cyborg}}: He just barely qualifies, as most of his body has been completely replaced with/converted to mechanical components; only his heart, lungs, and a portion of his brain remain organic, and they're wreathed in cybernetics.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Slate's internal narrative states that he feels like a prisoner in his own cybernetic body.
* EyeScream: After getting punched in the face by [[spoiler:Thrash]], he ends up with a crack in his optics, which are treated like eyes in the same way Metal Sonic's are in the games.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: It's not clear how he ended up the way he did, but he definitely didn't volunteer for it.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Redcell the Vampire Bat]]

* ActuallyNotAVampire: Not the supernatural kind, anyway. He’s a Mobian vampire bat.
* BlindWeaponmaster: Being blind doesn’t hamper his efficiency in the slightest, and he's evidently capable of using firearms as well as fighting hand-to-hand.
* Foil: To Rouge. Where Rouge is smooth and flirtatious with just about everyone he meets, he’s standoffish and blunt. Rouge is prideful about her looks; Redcell is dirty and disheveled.
* GoodGunsBadGuns: In-keeping with the GoodIsNotNice characterization of the Emerald Network, Redcell wields a pistol with an integrated suppressor, modeled on a Welrod. Knuckles- who DoesNotLikeGuns in the first place- recognizes it as an assassin's weapon, and reacts accordingly.
* HandicappedBadass: Notably one of the few members of the Emerald Network to put up a decent fight against Knuckles, despite being as blind as a...well, you know.
* MeaningfulName: His name alludes to red blood cells, and “Red Cell” is also a military term for units that test the defenses of friendly installations.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Hybrid the Manticore]]

* HandicappedBadass: Gets on just fine in a squad full of special operations troops, although not being able to speak is a pretty minor handicap considering their mission.
* HandSignals: Being TheSpeechless, he communicates entirely through these.
* OurManticoresAreSpinier: Described as looking like a [[MixAndMatchCritters lion with leathery bat wings]] and [[BewareMyStingerTail a barbed tail like a scorpion]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ash the Snow Leopard]]

* ColdSniper: Aside from a (very) brief moment where she's fumbling with her weapon as Knuckles charges her, she's shown to be utterly unflappable. In almost every other instance, she's this trope to a T.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Several members of the Emerald Network use guns, but she has a notable aversion to hand-to-hand combat, preferring to cover her allies from a distance.
* TheQuietOne: She won't say three words if two will do the trick. Naturally, BewareTheQuietOnes is in full effect, here.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Jaw the Shark]]

* BruiserWithASoftCenter: He’s massively built and has a mechanical mouth full of teeth the size of kitchen knives, but also the friendliest member of the Emerald Network besides Sparks.
* FaceOfAThug: His mouth is described as looking like a bear trap, as if a huge shark wouldn’t already be scary enough to look at. Fortunately, he’s an easygoing and cheerful NiceGuy.
* LightningBruiser: Although he comes across as more of a MightyGlacier in a fight, he can put on a fair turn of speed when he wants to- especially underwater.
* TheToothHurts: He spits out one of his (mechanical) teeth after getting slugged in the face by Knuckles.
