* EyeScream: After getting punched in the face by [[spoiler:Thrash]], he ends up with a crack in his optics, which are treated like eyes in the same way Metal Sonic's are in the games.

* Foil: To Rouge. Where Rouge is smooth and flirtatious with just about everyone he meets, he’s standoffish and blunt. Rouge is prideful about her looks; Redcell is dirty and disheveled.
* GoodGunsBadGuns: In-keeping with the GoodIsNotNice characterization of the Emerald Network, Redcell wields a pistol with an integrated suppressor, modeled on a Welrod. Knuckles- who DoesNotLikeGuns in the first place- recognizes it as an assassin's weapon, and reacts accordingly.
* HandicappedBadass: Notably one of the few members of the Emerald Network to put up a decent fight against Knuckles, despite being as blind as a...well, you know.
* MeaningfulName: His name alludes to red blood cells, and “Red Cell” is also a military term for units that test the defenses of friendly installations.
