* ValuesResonance: When the Lizards speak to humans with horror about males who use ginger to get females to mate with them, they are shocked when the humans (men and women) laugh it off. Given the problems with date rape drugs in our society today, modern readers are more likely to sympathize with the Lizards. Eventually, as is evident in ''Homeward Bound'', the humans' sensibilities evolve to match those of the Lizards (as well as modern readers).

I don't see either of these, even as a YMMV option. The USA is portrayed making just as many political blunders and underhanded evil decisions as any other. And the UK comes out far better than the Reich at the end of the series, or China or France during the whole run which had viewpoint characters.

* CreatorsFavourite: Out of all the world powers, the author clearly favours the United States. Although suffering some setbacks they never really ever suffer any grievous losses, and end the series by the strongest out of all the world powers.
* CreatorsPest: By contrast, the United Kingdom (for some reason) abandons its alliance with the United States and forms one with Nazi Germany. Becoming a junior partner and having irrelevance in world affairs.

** Similarly, The Race abhors torture in any form, and when a human asks about it one male replies "Do not make disgusting suggestions."

Misplaced Trivia

* ScienceMarchesOn: In the years since the series was written, we've learned some things about some of the star systems mentioned in the saga: In the novels of ''Colonization'', it's mentioned that Lizards are amused of how many asteroids the Tosev (Sol) system has next to the systems of their empire, much tidier. We currently know that Tau Ceti has ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau_Ceti#Debris_disk far more]]'' of them in orbit than the Sun and Epsilon Eridani even [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsilon_Eridani#Dust_disk much more]]. In addition to that, while there's [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau_Ceti#Planetary_system evidence of planets]] around Tau Ceti, they're likely to be quite different of Home, the Lizard's homeworld.

* HeyItsThatGuy: Happens InUniverse late in ''Homeward Bound'' when Johnathan and Karen go to a movie and see an aged Creator/MattDamon playing TheMentor; this is a big shock to them since they were put on ice in 1994, when his career was just starting to take off.

* {{Deconstruction}}: of the entire alien invasion genre.

* MagnificentBastard: Otto Skorzeny. It's amazing how much you'll find yourself rooting for a Nazi commander.
* MotiveDecay: David Nussboym was originally a Lizard collaborator because he felt they were the best hope for Jewish survival in Poland, and because he hated the Nazis enough to override his concern that the entire would would become an outpost of the Race. Mordechai himself admits that David is an honorable and brave man, and that just because they have opposing viewpoints does not make him a greedy and self-serving fool. However, once David is sent to a Soviet ''gulag'' he becomes a collaborator solely to support himself, and betrays friends and enemies alike to the head of the camp in order to advance his own agenda. This would normally count as [[CharacterDevelopment a change in the character because of his surroundings]], but his own thoughts and memories now reflect on how he did the same things back in Poland and throughout his life, and his very nature is self-serving.

In-universer trope, which makes it Deliberate Values Dissonance

* ValuesDissonance: One of the biggest problems between the Race and humanity is that they just do not '''''get''''' one another, and can not grasp what is "right" or "wrong" to each other.
