* MagnificentBastard:
** Nightburn Ackland is the dashing leader of the Golem Hunters Guild and human icon who's secretly in league with the Veruni. After losing his Veruni lover to a disease and learning that her race is doom to extinction unless drastic measures, Nightburn aligned with the Veruni as a false hero to his race, using his fame and charisma to lure other humans as part of the Veruni's many system to keep both sides in check. Running the entertainment and mine industry where he tricked many humans into slavery, Nightburn hid his facade brilliantly for years while secretly getting closer in solving the Veruni dilemma until encountered Dean. After being defeated by him and impress by his resolve, Nightburn switch sides, setting up Dean to succeed in what he failed, unite the two race, before seemingly sacrifing himself for him before re-emerging to face the Veruni radicals as a genuine hero.
** Duogrammaton "Duo" is a Veruni entertainment mogul who's floozy facade hides a cunning reporter fighting for the truth. In charge of Liela Belle and managing Nightburn's image, when he realize that Avril was the Ice Queen, he used his status to lure her group into a fake audition where he secretly studied her in the guise of just mere amusement. Hating how his race disregard humans and censor the truth, Duo pretended to comply with his race's demand only to expose their whole system behind their back, secretly recording and revealing Nightburn and the Veruni's fraudalence to start a revolution for humans to fight back, before guiding the group to Johnny Appleseed so they can show the truth of the conflict plaguing both races.

* EndingAversion: General consensus is that the ending is less interesting than it could have been on several accounts: [[spoiler:explaining Avril's amnesia with "It was a StableTimeLoop" and Volsung's villainy with "He was [[DemonicPossession possessed]]."]] Many were hoping for more intricate, complex answers to those questions, rather than [[spoiler:explanations that can literally be summed up in one trope]]. There's also the fact that the ending leaves a lot of unanswered questions (such as the fates of [[spoiler:Nightburn, Persephone, and Captain Bartholomew when they go to help fight the golems]]).

* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Dean get a lot of criticism for being a IdiotHero that appears to have been taken from some generic [[ShonenDemographic shonen anime]]. Him being too simple-minded and ObliviousToLove also annoys many players, but still there is fans that enjoy his optimist and determination, and consider him better than [[Videogame/WildArms4 Jude Maverick]].
** Chuck is also compared negatively to Arnaud from the [[Videogame/WildArms4 previous game]] and criticized for losing Lucille to Fereydoon. However, those who are less critical of him says that he is a nice guy who just suffers for LateCharacterSyndrome.

* GoodBadTranslation: A French exclusive one. While the English translation was perfectly fine, the French translation was completely off. The translators included private jokes which were completely absent from the original script, affecting the personality of characters, and the overall mood of the game. While some of these changes are funny ('''Go Goldorak, GO !!!''' upon the discovery of the golem), some are crossing the line, like a NPC who says in a dialogue the slogan of the actual French president, Nicolas Sarkozy ("Work more in order to earn more"). A lot of French anglophones switched to the English translation because of that.

* CounterpartComparison: Wild Arms 5 has so many commonalities with Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann that many fans of the latter accused the former of being a rip-off. However, it is [[InvertedTrope inverted]] as [=WA5=] is the older work.[[note]]This game was released first in Japan (December 14, 2006), while the Gurren Lagann anime came out afterwards (April 1, 2007).[[/note]] Listed below are only a few key parallels:
** For starters, Rebecca is similar in her character design and personality to Yoko. Plus, Dean is similar to an older Simon (they're both voiced by ''Creator/YuriLowenthal'' in the English release!)
*** Generally speaking, a lot of the voice actors who recorded for this game are the ones who regularly dub anime in California. But still...
** Next, the track "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n97NRZ1TzYw How Tiring Are Travels]]" from TTGL sounds strikingly similar to the Wild Arms Vanguard track "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz4y6x-dpV8 An Encounter in the Sunset]]". ''They're practically the same song''!!
** Both stories involve the command of a giant robot to save the world.
** There's another race that is at war with the human race throughout the story. In Gurren Lagann, it's the Spirals. In Vanguard, it's the Veruni.
** Speaking of spirals, Dean's bolt and Simon's drill are exactly the same motif.
** Towards the climax, there's a royal with a split personality who turns out to have the same lineage as the opposing race (Nia in GL, [[spoiler:Avril/The Ice Queen]] in [=WA5=]).
