* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: ''The Mariner's Wife'' feels extremely out of place when compared to the other stories. Whereas every other entry is either providing details about the adventures of Tolkien's characters or providing backstory and history for the lands and peoples of Arda, TMW is about Aldarion and Erendis' courtship and marriage. It has no bearing on anything else in the entire legendarium and is never brought up again.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: One can argue who is most at fault in the ruin of Aldarion and Erendis' marriage. A careful reading reveals that while Aldarion made ''some'' concessions Erendis never gave an inch. And she pretty much loses this reader's sympathy when she jumps to the conclusion that Aldarion has deliberately broken his word to her when he does not return on time. The thought that something could have happened to him clearly never crosses her mind. For Erendis it is ''all'' about her.
