* JerkAssWoobie:
** Twilight is a KnowNothingKnowItAll, who abuses her adopted son, Spike, as well as her friends. But, considering she's already hated by the entire town for it, is banished there by Celestia, (and later to the crystal kingdom, ForTheEvulz), and Celestia has a creepy crush on her, all on top of being surrounded by general craziness, It's hard not sympathize with her sometimes.
** Also, Pinkie was an annoying JerkAss the whole series. But after [[spoiler: she dies, and is unceremoniously replaced with Pinkie II]], it's also hard not pity her. The best part: [[spoiler: She's sent to pony hell.]] Which apparently is still marginally better then Ponyville.
** Rainbow Dash is a crazy annoying jerk, but considering that she's also TheFriendNobodyLikes, ButtMonkey, has NoSocialSkills, AND had a HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood, it's hard to blame her for being a little messed up.

* MoralEventHorizon: Spitfire abandoning her own daughter for ten years, while telling her husband she was dead, only to bring her back, just to make Rainbow Dash jealous.

In season four, Applebloom lies about Granny Smith being in the hospital to get money out of Twilight. Cut to season six of the actual show, where Applejack shares with her the story of how she learned never to tell a lie, which also involves a lie about Granny Smith being in the hospital.

** "Stranger Than Fan Fiction" introduced "Yellow Twilight" who was represented by footage of a yellow pony toy, and who wrote a SelfInsertFic where Purple Twilight has a crush on her. Then in [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E12AmendingFences "Amending Fences"]] Moondancer, (an unseen pony mentioned in episode one) was finally revealed to look just like Twilight, but with a yellow coat. And Moondancer's behavior was surprisingly consistent with the interpretation that she used to have a crush on Twilight.

** Season Six is going to have a canon episode called "Stranger than FanFiction", same as the season three UFP episode.

** Fluttershy is a former slave who's treated as an ExtremeDoormat by her friends (though she does often give as good as she gets) and the animals she cares for.
** Spike was kidnapped from his mother when he was just a baby by Twilight Sparkle and she treats him like a slave. When he tries to leave, she ''poisons him'' and would only give him the antidote if he stays.
** Applebloom is constantly belittled by Granny Smith for petty reasons, if any, her parents are likely dead, and she [[spoiler: has become delusional and developed Twist, an imaginary friend who tries to talk her into being evil.]]
** Gilda, due to everyone in Ponyville being racist, and having no friends.
** And how can we forget poor old Luna? The princess that has always been treated like crap by her own sister and racist subjects, before being vanished to the moon for a thousand years, then relegated to the basement for the rest of the series, where Celestia continues to treat her like crap.
** Also Cheerilee. (We may need to the give them a who page if this continues.) She apparently survived an off screen lynching , for unspecified reasons and is constantly pushed around, and even black mailed by her own students. And later, [[spoiler: drugged by the CMC into a relationship with Big Mac. Though at least she got something out of it.]]

** And how can we forget poor old Luna? The princess that has always been treated like crap by her own sister and racist subjects, before being vanished to the moon for a thousand years, then relegated to the basement for the rest of the series, where Celestia continues to treat her like crap.
