** Whether you like Sookie or not, [[spoiler: her near drowning at the hands of her OWN father and finding out her parents were willing to kill her]] is a hard enough pill to swallow. It's hard not to feel sorry for her when she [[spoiler: yells fuck you Mom and Dad at their own graves]].

** Arlene's near death experience in Season 7 is this. Even if you outright hated her, her happy expression when [[spoiler: she see's Terry's ghost welcoming her to the afterlife]] can be all sorts of tear jerking.

* TheScrappy: Lorena! She's back in Season 3, and is just as annoying as ever. [[spoiler:But now she won't be a problem, having been staked by Sookie as of Episode 7.]]
** Tara's mother Lettie Mae was very hard to like in seasons 1-5. From her self-righteous attitude to her ungratefulness to Tara. Thankfully, Lettie Mae is [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap]] at the end of season 6 when finally owns up to her faults and has an amazing heartwarming moment with Tara. But before that, the fans just wanted to slap her for all the crap she puts Tara through.

Sookie can get very grating to many viewers thanks to her constant IdiotBall moments.
** Arlene is this by many. From her total jerkass attitude toward non-human characters such

Jessica and Adilyn for even being in the same room as her, to her sub-plots being totally distracting to the main plot. Not to mention, her semi-racist remarks.

** Jason being a one-dimensional Jerkass man-whore in season 1. The fact that nearly every scene had him chasing the next girl to taking drugs didn't earn him any fans at first. Thanks to a ton of CharacterDevelopment, he is [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap now a fan favorite]].

** Sookie has become grating to many viewers as well.

* CanonSue: Sookie comes dangerously close to being this at times. It's less so in the books, though, as her only Sue-like trait was that half of the male supernatural characters were attracted to her or trying to marry her unless they were gay.
** Of course Sookie's Sue-ness is greatly reduced by the fact that she often doesn't know what is right and [[spoiler: her irresistible allure has more to do with her fairy blood then with her personality.]]

** Warlow, due to the massive anticlimax of him not being the BigBad, but just another Sookie-stalking vampire. Even worse, he's tailor-made to be a love interest combined with slice of Gary Stu. A handsome one-of-his-kind vampire/faerie hybrid destined to be with Sookie with a 'tragic backstory' who's more powerful than all the other characters except for the newly villainous Bill? Not to mention he disposed of a more interesting character played by a more experienced, better actor (Niall Brigant). This new, wimpy Anne Rice-lite Warlow is a far cry from the ImplacableMan BigBad fans were expecting.

** In season 7, the rioting townsfolk beyond cross it when they decide to take matters into their own hand and kill anything not human. It's not just the Hep V Vampires, it's Sam, Sookie and the Vampires that tried to help. They become so bad, they just as bad if not worse than the Hep V Vampires in the season.

* UnfortunateImplications:''True Blood'' has a lot of sex. ''True Blood'' has a lot of gay/bisexual characters. And yet nearly all of the sex scenes are either hetero or between two hot women. We've even had not one but ''two'' hetero on-screen rapes, one of them a ''gang'' rape (of Jason). Of the few (and brief) male-male scenes we've had, one [[BuryYourGays ended in death]] ([[spoiler: Eric and Talbot]]). It's like HBO is . . . suddenly squeamish all of a sudden. [[http://www.fangsforthefantasy.com/2011/09/lafayette-and-jesus-continue-to-depress.html This]] pretty much sums it up.

** Jason got gangraped by the women in Hotshot after spending a year taking care of the community as best he could. Add that on top of the sickness and bondage he's forced to endure, you know he'll need a big hug when he escapes.
** Eric after being mindwiped by Marnie. His helpless PuppyDogEyes and total awkwardness around Sookie almost makes you forget his total bastardry just an episode prior. Almost.

* WhatAnIdiot: Steve's television appearances mostly make him look like a bigoted douchebag. There are plenty of good arguments he could be making against vampires, but he has somehow managed to fail to bring up a single one of them, instead relying on wild vague accusations with no proof and talking over anyone with a different opinion instead of acting with dignity. Of course this is probably intentional on the shows part.

** This is a stark contrast to the Godric who appears in Eric's flashback; [[spoiler:he kills Eric's men - presumably because he just wanted one Viking, not three - then turns Eric into a vampire because he thought his fighting spirit was "beautiful" (Admittedly, he kind of asks first if Eric is okay with that).]]

** There has been speculation about Eric's relationship with Godric[[spoiler: even before we learned that Godric is his Maker]]. Unfortunately, Alan Ball has {{jossed}} any romantic subtext between Eric and Godric. (Although, watching their scenes, one wonders if he neglected to tell the actors, and directors, and possibly, the other writers).

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: Pretty much every time a main non villain character is put in a deadly situation. So far [[spoiler: Tommy]] is the only good (though how good he really was is arguable) main character to die thus far and he was a universally hated scrappy and not an original castmember.

*HarsherInHindsight: The scene when Maxine visits Sam [[spoiler:at Tommy's grave]] and tells Sam that he's part of the family is so much harder to watch after Season 7, when it's shown that Maxine would sooner kill Sam with pure glee after finding out he's a shifter.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: How interesting would it have been if Sookie had met Adilyn or her sisters earlier? It could have been very heartwarming to see Sookie be the big sister figure to Adilyn and help her understand her mind reading ability so she wouldn't have to suffer the same trouble Sookie had when she was Adilyn's age. Instead, the two barley interact in any of their meetings. Between Seasons 6 and 7, they've only spoken to each other three times and all three are very brief.

** Lettie Mae is rescued at the end of season 6. To finally see her own up to her faults and try to reconcile with Tara is both heartwarming and tear jerking. She is rescued further in season 7 when she is willing to take V just so [[spoiler: she can communicate with the recently decease Tara and find a way to give her daughter piece in the afterlife]].
