* TooCoolToLive: Okay, he's about as much of a dick as most of the other characters in the film, but it can be hard not to mourn the loss of Ruth (and his glorious 'stache). Helps that he's played by Kurt Russell.

** The plot and [[KillEmAll general tone]] hearken back to the 1972 grindhouse western ''Cutthroats Nine.''

* AngstWhatAngst: Mannix really doesn't seem all that angry when Warren provokes Smithers into a fatal shootout despite having been nothing but contemptuous of the former and worshipful of the latter in his previous interactions with them. He and Warren even end up best buds!

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: There are very few likable characters among the main cast, if any, with O.B. Jackson being a possible exception. Ruth repeatedly beats an unarmed woman for his entertainment, Warren [[spoiler:killed and possibly raped General Sanders' son, in addition to lying about his Lincoln letter]], Mannix, Sanders, and Daisy Domergue are all incredibly racist and bitter, and [[spoiler:the rest end up being murderous outlaws working for Jody Domergue's gang]]. However, this is somewhat alleviated by the fact that [[spoiler: Mannix gets better, as he was [[CassandraTruth telling the truth all along about being sheriff]], and if you subscribe to the AlternativeCharacterInterpretation that Warren lied about raping Sanders' son to goad him into drawing and/or the Lincoln Letter being genuine, then he gets better too]].

* RootingForTheEmpire: With a cabin full of murderers, racists, war criminals, people who beat their prisoners, and characters who claim to have tortured and raped the people who came to kill them, some viewers just want Daisy to turn the tables on these perverted lawmen. [[spoiler: Shame she never does.]]

* CaptainObviousReveal: [[spoiler: Aside from Smithers, it is very easy to determine who is in on the plot to spring Daisy. Just look at which characters are loudmouths and which are trying to lay low. The latter are, not surprisingly, here to cheat the hangman.]]

** Some might also say that it's very similar to 12 Angry Men, just set in a western.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Did Warren [[spoiler: actually torture and rape Smithers' son? Or did he just make up the story to goad Smithers into attacking him so he could legally kill him?]]

* WhatAnIdiot: After [[spoiler: Ruth is poisoned, there are five people in on Daisy's escape who are all capable of easily killing the two confused lawmen (Warren and Mannix) who are unaware of the conspirator. Jody, armed and unseen, Mobray with a hidden pistol, Gage with the hidden pistol in the table, Daisy with Ruth's gun, and Bob. Yet they all surrender themselves to Warren for no reason.]]

This caused his fans to get up in arms themselves, especially when an NYPD spokesman said there would be "a surprise" for Tarantino when the film opened, sounding for all the world like some kind of mob boss.

* SpiritualAdaptation: The movie has been referred to by many people as the western-edition of ''[[TheThing1982 The Thing]]'', as both movies feature a group of people being trapped in freezing conditions and not being able to trust one another. Tarantino actually stated outright that it was one of his biggest inspirations when making the film. What adds even more to the similarities is the fact that some of Ennio Morricone's unused tracks for ''The Thing'' are used in certain scenes.
