* ContestedSequel: ''VideoGame/SuikodenIII''. Despite getting excellent reviews from most markets, the fanbase was broken, largely over [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks changes to the battle system.]] Worth noting is that it was a very dramatic breaking: most fans either thought it was ruined or it wasn't at all. Comes up more often than any game besides II in most "Best Suikoden" threads in forums.

* FridgeBrilliance: So ''what'' were those apocalyptic visions that were so bad that they drove [[spoiler:Luc]] to JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope? Let's take a more in-depth look... [[spoiler:It was a colorless, stagnant world dominated by order and full of spherical monsters. While TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt is bad enough and could possibly push anyone to try to avert it, when you remember Luc has a pretty intimate connection to somebody who has a True Rune that represents Order and has a circle motif, and that this person just might be the one person Luc hates more than Sasarai, his rather drastic actions to avert such a future make a LOT more sense. Still confused? Luc saw what might actually happen were Hikusaak to succeed in gathering all 27 True Runes, and if one of those True Runes were destroyed, this future becomes impossible to achieve.]]

Critics love this game, evidenced by IGN and [=GameSpot=] giving the game '''''RPG of the Year''''' of 2002, not to mention a spot on IGN's ''Top 25 [=PS2=] Games of All Time'' and ''Top 100 [=PlayStation=] 2 Games''. Yet this game falls into [[BrokenBase divides the fanbase]] because of the Trinity Sight system and [[TheyChangedItSoItSucks most of the change, including the battle system]]

* UnderusedGameMechanic: Teleportation. Viki only joins in the penultimate chapter, when most of the stuff is already done. Also, during a certain mission, she is sleping and cannot teleport Geddoe from Budehuc Castle to Le Buque [[note]]Hugo and Chris have similar problems, but their destination is nearly and they have horses[[/note]], meaning you have to walk all the way there.

* GameBreaker:
** You can level up Chris, Borus, Salome, and Roland to level 99 in Chapter 1. It just involves a ton of time and tediousness and the rewards, while good since there are a few stars that will be level 99 if you recruit them, isn't really worth it in the end.
** The above is of the DiscOneNuke variety of this trope. However, some surprising characters are effectively {{game breaker}}s if you abuse abilities, titles, equipment etc. Quite possibly the best person in terms of pure destructive terror is a completely optional 15 year old girl. Who needs a True Rune anyway?
** Juan and Emily. The battle system allows characters with the right skills to attack several times per turn, and they can move on to other enemies when their enemy falls before their attack string is finished. These two can get more than 10 attacks per round ''each'', with each hit doing roughly 400 damage. Add to that the fact that Juan has a Waking rune attached permanently, which means he's [[TheBerserker doing at least double damage]] when he wakes up. The downside is that this means he's going to be sleeping for at least the first round, but you can equip accessories that nullify sleep to just have them demolish absolutely everything you encounter within one round. Even bosses don't last very long against that.
** Hugo mounted with Fubar is one of the strongest characters of this game. While he can't exactly out damage both Juan and Emily, he does have access to a second unit who can do anything while Hugo does all of the attacking. Simply give whatever consumable items at Fubar while Hugo does all of the work.

* {{Expy}}: Geddoe looks a LOT like Dr. Serizawa from ''[[Film/{{Gojira}} Godzilla]]''

** From his stupid name, to his status as a [[TheMillstone Millstone]] and a [[TagalongKid Tagalong Kid]], to the shit-eating grin in his character portrait, Lulu annoys many fans. Also, with his small size and his habit of picking fights with opponents far more powerful than him, he actually bears an uncanny resemblance to the original Scrappy.
