* SpiritualSuccessor: The game, despite being made on a different engine (Unreal Engine 4), has a lot of gameplay design taken from the developers previous well-known game EYE: Divine Cybermancy, down to the interface and the ability to revisit completed levels to play random objectives, and the numerous and grindy skill tree progression.

Requires Word Of God confirmation

* AuthorsSavingThrow: After fans complained of the Terminators voices in the 1st Gameplay video don't sound like their counterparts in VideoGame/DawnOfWar, the developers listened and change the way the Terminators voices sound like.
** Attempted post-release with the Enhanced Edition update, which adds many customization features for weapons and armor, a new "Special Mission" mode and greatly improves the performance.

* EightDeadlyWords: Not a straight rendition of the trope, but possible an Trope one; the game has no characters to care about. Probably the game's biggest flaw is that, unlike similar team-based horde shooters like VideoGame/Left4Dead or VideoGame/TheEndTimesVermintide, you don't control characters with unique personalities and character designs and interesting team dynamics and interactions, you just control nameless, faceless, personality-deficient, generic Terminators who never say anything that isn't either strictly related to the mission, or generic Space Marine "For the Emperor!/Purge the Xenos filth!" platitudes. Not even the Librarian or Chaplain classes have much to distinguish them from the others. Given that the personalities of the player characters is a big part of the appeal of games in this genre, the complete absence of any goes a long way to explaining Deathwing's lack of long-term appeal.

* DemonicSpiders: The Bioblast-strain Genestealers. While most of the enemies in the game were heavily nerfed (quite necessarily, as nobody would enjoy the game much if a single genestealer could pounce onto you, peel your Terminator armour open like a sardine tin and eviscerate you in one swipe like in the tabletop game), the explosions of these purple buggers did ridiculous damage if they got close enough, to the point where they were close to being the only really serious threat to your safety. And despite giving a clearly audible warning they were coming, this didn't help you much if one of them came around the corner and exploded in your face, and also made the melee-only Assault Terminator class almost unplayable.

* SoOkayItsAverage: The game's reception generally veered towards this. While the game was lauded for being visually faithful to Warhammer 40,000 with some interesting mechanics, the progression system, stiff animation, severe bugs, lack of variety, and the repetitive level design makes the game not worth it for most people.

* HilariousInHindsight: Streum On's Videogame/EYEDivineCybermancy was heavily influenced by TabletopGame/Warhammer 40000. Now they are developing an actual 40k liscenced game. Even better, the image quotes on the Cybermancy page said the pictured character was "Not a Space Marine Chaplain. Honestly. Really." a year before Deathwing surfaced.
