* TheScrappy: Although [[PerkyFemaleMinion Tira]] and the various TierInducedScrappy characaters get quite a bit of hate, the most universally hated character in the series appears to be [[{{NonActionGuy}} Rothion]], Sophitia's NPC husband. Mostly for DieForOurShip reasons, as people prefer to pair Sophitia with characters of either gender such as Siegfried, Taki, Cassandra, or ''themselves''. Also Yun-seong. Full stop. He is everything wrong with teenage action characters in one migrane-inducing package.
** This is a "hot-blooded" teen who has been shown, told, and even experienced that Soul Edge is nothing more than pure, unadulterated evil that would only possess him and force him to destroy everything he has ever loved. So what does he do? Return home to fight for his country? Or even to continue his training? No. He searches for the damn thing anyway! In fact, Seong Mi-na's only role in the series these days is to stop him from being so incredibly stupid, even if it means attacking him with a bladed weapon.

* MagnificentBastard: Quite possibly this trope's embodiment in the series. He also has quite a few similarities with Lelouch of ''CodeGeass'' fame.

** Also, Tira in ''IV''.

** The Apprentince, despite being fairly low-tier, tends to be a pain in the neck to fight against.

* MotiveDecay: Originally Mitsurugi just wanted to defeat the rifle. Fair enough. Then he was able to defeat the rifle. Now he's just... kind of putzing around in looking for his "worthy opponent".

** Hilde, ringing people out with her was so easy that ever Hilde player who appeared on the main stage at the Evolution 2009 tournament was booed by the crowd.

* TierInducedScrappy: Hilde, not really for her ranking (there are characters ranked higher than her) but rather for how easy it is to win via ring out with her. During the ''Soulcalibur IV'' tournament at [=EVO2k9=], everytime a Hilde player was featured on the main stage, the entire ballroom would be filled with people booing.

* {{Narm}}: In ''IV'', almost everything the characters say, and everything the announcer says. The worst one being when he "Victory goes to to the last one standing." ''after'' the match is over.
** And of course, there's this infamous exchange from ''Soulcalibur II'':

--> '''Taki:''' (''laughs'') "Haven't you had enough?"
** If it's possible to have a visual version of Narm, it is pertinent to bring up Nightmare's "Soul Edge (Complete)" weapon from ''Soulcalibur II''. This is supposed to be the ultimate form of a sword that is nothing but pure evil... but the thing is so dang bloated it looks like he's swinging around a gigantic balloon.
** What about?:

* GameBreaker: In 3, Xianghua's A+ K B+ K move. The computer almost never blocks it. A few other "AI killers" too.

** Another AI killer would definitely have to be Link's throw in the GCN version of Soul Calibur II, which can Ring Out from almost anywhere on the stage.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Siegfried and (in the [[YuriFan Yuri]] Fandom) Sophitia.
* ManipulativeBastard: Zasalamel in [=SC3=] manipulates Nightmare, Siegfried, Ivy and a bunch of {{Mook}}s as part of his plan to raise both swords' powers back to full. Also, in each character's own story mode, there's one path in which he baits said character into his clock tower, test him in battle, and then either direct him/her to Nightmare (so he gets a chance to feed the sword with a strong soul) or curse him so he'd not become a nuisance later.
** Also, Tira in IV.

** Iska in Legends fits this trope perfectly as [[spoiler:he makes the character do the whole story then attempts to kill them]].

* ThatOneBoss: Setsuka is a stone-cold bitch to fight when she's a computer in ''Soul Calibur III''.
** Collosus is this a bit, but it's not terribly fake difficulty or cheap A.I. He's a goddamn giant statue that deals extra damage and is hard to block. For once, it's a reasonable point that he'd be hard.

It helps that he's [[{{Bishonen}} pretty]].
