The short is a Deconstruction of what the ending of the game looks like at first glance. Why are we holding Seth Mac Farlane to the standards of the hypothetical most knowledgeable Mario fan out there? The short is clearly based on the first game only, so why would it involve things that would only be known by committing the lore as explained in other titles to memory? The Shallow Parody entry was clearly written by a Mario fan who already didn't like Seth Mac Farlane and wanted an excuse to bag on him while also somehow expecting a writing team known for having surface-level-at-best knowledge of pop culture that's not swing music, science fiction film and television, and 1970s/80s sitcoms and dramas to know everything about Mario that they do.
