* IKnewIt: A lot of people correctly guessed that Superman would switch to his ComicBook/DCRebirth (more specifically, his ''ComicBook/SupermanReborn'') outfit after his revival.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Superman wearing the ''ComicBook/SupermanReborn'' suit at the end of the film seems to be an answer to those hoping this continuity would tone down the reliance on the divisive elements of the ''ComicBook/New52'' and start embracing the more well-received aspects of ''ComicBook/DCRebirth''.
** Creator/SteveBlum voicing Darkseid in ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueWar'' was not that well received due to the heavy amount of vocal effects used to make his voice unnecessarily deeper, undermining what should be an intimidating performance. Here, he's voiced by Creator/TonyTodd, who's given more leeway to voice the character with almost no vocal effects.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** Despite not getting off on the right foot in their first encounter with Superboy hitting on her, Lois is noticeably very compassionate toward him. She tends to him when he gets knocked out by Parademons, and when he finds out that Lex Luthor makes up half his DNA, she assures him that he looks just like Superman.
** Superboy is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and, despite his cockiness and showboating, truly cares about doing the right thing and helping people. By the end of the film, he has found a true home and family with Ma and Pa Kent.
** Just before the final fight with Cyborg Superman at the Watchtower, Lois still has trouble believing that Clark's returned to life and tests him only something she and the real Superman knows.
---> '''Lois:''' [[CallBack The napkin. At Bibbo's.]] [[SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay What was your last secret?]]\\
'''Clark:''' ... "[[TrustPassword I love you.]]"\\
'''Lois:''' Clark...! I love yo-
** The ending scene with Superman {{back|FromTheDead}} [[HesBack in full]], wearing the ''ComicBook/SupermanReborn'' [[CostumeEvolution suit]] as he flies off to join his friends at the Watchtower. The moment where he salutes a little boy on a passing plane is especially touching, bolstered by the SugarWiki/{{awesome music}} playing.

Misuse. Per discussion, this trope applies to the work that is a Tough Act To Follow, not to its sequels.

** Henshaw's {{Mooks}} are ordinary people who have accepted devices from him to give them superpowers (Apokolypse tech). It could have been a very interesting dilemma for the Justice League to be fighting ordinary people under mind control with Superman-like powers (if not necessarily his power levels) and trying not to permanently harm them. Instead they're treated as just disposable goons to be thrashed. Though some poignancy is regained when they all appear to die as the Apokolypse tech shuts down.
* ToughActToFollow: This film is a direct sequel to ''WesternAnimation/TheDeathOfSuperman'', which was one of the best films in the ''WesternAnimation/DCAnimatedMovieUniverse'' thanks to the great action scenes, much more likable depictions of Superman and Lois Lane, and for offering a fresh take on the comic book classic while still being rather faithful to it. In comparison, ''Reign of the Supermen'' was much more polarizing, with many fans claiming that it failed to reach the standards set by its predecessor. As a result, it grossed less than a third of this film's gross totals.

* LesYay: [[https://youtu.be/RwGtEwDax9E The scene]] with Diana and Lois at the restaurant is ''very'' heavy with lesbian subtext. They confide in each other heart to heart and aren't afraid to exchange some snarky banter with each other, much like a real life couple. Both of them stating that they don't have many "girlfriends" probably wouldn't raise much of an eyebrow, except Diana brings up first, in the context of it being odd for an Amazon. . . who, back home, would logically ''only'' have "girlfriends."

Misuse of Harsher In Hindsight, as that is just a case of Happy Ending Override. Fixing indentations. They Changed It Now It Sucks seems like the more appropriate trope for that entry.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Lex Luthor using Mercy as a HumanShield against Eradicator's DeathRay? Exactly the sort of despicable thing we've come to expect from him. Him thanking her first, and replying to her confused "For what?" by throwing her in the way of said DeathRay? Masterful BlackComedy.
** He does the same thing with Dabney Donovan later, having him killed by all the monsters in his lab for being unable to keep from spilling info Lex would rather be kept secret. As he and a horrified Superboy are exiting the lab, they hear Donovan's dying screams and an annoyed Lex says "He ''still'' can't keep his mouth shut."
* HarsherInHindsight: It can be hard to look back at the rather hopeful ending of the movie, knowing that everything will soon be going to hell in ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueDarkApokolipsWar'' anyway.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: {{Narm}}: The scene where the boom tube falls from the sky and seemingly vaporizes the Justice League would normally be suspenseful, except the heroes stand completely motionless as they stare at the portal heading their way. What should be one of the tensest moments in the film becomes much more comical thanks to the heroes seemingly resigning to their fate and not even attempting to run/fly/phase/teleport away from harm.
