*AudienceAlienatingPremise: The Quintaglio Ascension Trilogy, being allegorical hard sci-fi xenofiction about dinosaurs aimed at adults with no human characters, gives the books an extremely niche appeal and made it difficult for them to even be published.

Added DiffLines:

* CultClassic: The Quinglio Ascension isn't well known and is the lowest-selling of Robert J. Sawyer's works. Despite this, he has stated that the Trilogy has generated the most fan mail of any of his books, and it enjoys a small but passionate audience among dinosaur fans and [[PopularWithFurries scalies]].

It's one Precursor of unknown gender.

* BizarroEpisode: For some readers, the chapters narrated by [[spoiler:the {{Precursor|s}} who "seeded" other planets with creatures from Earth just because they were lonely]] are a bit... ''jarring''.

Zero Context Example and also all new Magnificent Bastards have to be approved by the trope's clean up thread.

* SdrawkcabName: '''Det-Yenalb'''. Who does Sawyer know (and, evidently, hate) who is called Ted Blaney?
** Placed here in YMMV as at the moment this is conjectural-it points to a RomanAClef but no conclusive evidence is there, yet.

Sdrawkcab Name: what are the chances of Det-Yenalb making sense backwards, if randomly chosen?

* YouFailBiologyForever: Quintaglios have evolved to become extremely intelligent and technologically advanced despite them ''all'' being anti-social hunter-gatherers that discourage technological augmentation, at least as far as hunting is concerned. This not only raises questions of how they managed to develop technology in spite of these extremely unfavourable circumstances, but also [[FridgeLogic how they even managed to survive as a species]]. If they all have territorial instincts that drive them into [[AxeCrazy uncontrollable murderous rages]] - individually, not just on a pack, dominance or group level - and rely on numbers to kill prey many times larger than themselves, how has this instinct not been eliminated via natural selection? and in lieu of this, how have they not all killed each other or died of starvation? WordOfGod explains that Quintaglio technological proficiency [[http://www.sfwriter.com/rmquinta.htm this is because of a trend for animals to evolve a greater relative brain size over millennia]] and concludes that Quintaglios are more intelligent than humans... [[CircularReasoning because they have evolved to become more intelligent than humans]]. No other reason given. On top of that, the brain size to body ratio is by no means a conclusive measure of human or even animal intelligence, with many extremely stupid animals having far larger relative brain sizes than humans.
