With the exception of the Red Ranger, every other character is listed under "Any Ethnicity," reflecting the franchise's history of colorblind casting. What's the Red Ranger's requirement? ''Caucasian.'' Yes, the head of a ''samurai family'' that has fought since ancient ''Japan'' was the guy who absolutely positively totally had to be whitest white guy who ever whited no matter what. This was fixed in more recent casting calls. To be fair, there may be a reason for specifying race, such as making sure Jayden and family members that show up don't look [[HollywoodGenetics blatantly unrelated to each other]]. [[spoiler: It also asks for an actress to play 'Princess Megan,' which appears to be Kaoru's counterpart.]]

* LostInTranslation: Perhaps not as egregious as a full-blown BlindIdiotTranslation as some have suggested, but as pointed out by [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall Linkara]] in his ''WebVideo/HistoryOfPowerRangers'' series, much of the dialogue sounds like something out of a HongKongDub. This is due to the rather haphazard manner in which the show was produced, with scripts from the Japanese episodes being translated word-for-word by non-native speakers, then having large swaths of them excised in order to reduce each episode's runtime by fifty percent. The result is a mix of incredibly stiff and unnatural dialogue, wildly inconsistent characterization that sometimes changes within the same episode, and plenty of ValuesDissonance due to writers not having the time to properly adapt the ''Shinkenger'' footage into something more understandable to American audiences. What changes that are made are seemingly done at random, and almost nothing around said changes is adjusted to match with it, leading to an often confusing and {{Narm}}-ridden viewing experience riddled with numerous [[PlotHole Plot Holes]] and [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment Big Lipped Alligator Moments]].

** When Deker betrays Serrator, is is just a case of EvenEvilHasSatndards, or did he have a more personal reason for it. While he doesn't remember Dayu at all, he does know he was cursed and once human, and he did learn that Serrator did create Uramasa and thus showed him a cursed existence. So it could be equally likely (perhaps even on a subconscious level) be payback for making him this way.

** It's also quite popular to ship Lauren and Mia together. With it being the ship with the most fanfiction for either of the them on Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn. This is despite how little screen time that they have together. This is due to the fact that Mia is one of the only Rangers nice to Lauren from the beginning. Lauren is also the only Ranger to genuinely like Mia's cooking. There's also the fact that people like to ship the Red and Pink Rangers in general.

** [[BigBad Master Xandred]] took the title of the most badass character in the show from Serrator and makes him look like a mooger. Just watch "The Master Returns" and see what I mean.

** Lauren, primarily due to being one of the ''very'' few Female Red Rangers. So much so that she made it in to the Morphing Madness contest and several years later became a prominent figure in the [[ComicBook/MightyMorphinPowerRangersShatteredGrid Shattered Grid]] comic event.

** Much like ''Series/PowerRangersOperationOverdrive,'' many felt like this was a meh season that still had some good ideas. Bulk's return was welcome, Deker's character arc was well-received, and [[spoiler: Lauren was praised for being the first female Red Ranger [[Series/PowerRangersSPD who was also a good guy]].]].

Said plot, found [[https://amitbhaumik.tumblr.com/post/59915514235/original-power-rangers-samurai-proposal here]] in case you're curious, would've focused on a rivalry between Mark Ozawa (the red of the season) and Keiji Ayakawa (a [[Series/PowerRangersJungleFury Jarrod-esque character]] who would've taken Deker's role and led the Ashura clan), would've still involved Mark's family having generations of samurai (but this generation would be the first generation of Samurai Rangers) and had Mark lead an international team of rangers (with Allison, his cousin, taking the place of Lauren later on). Notably, Bulk would've still been part of the cast, but Spike would've instead been replaced with Bulk's son Eugene (who would take Antonio's place as the Gold Ranger), and Bulk would've taken on a roll similar to the kuroko in ''Shinkenger''. Ultimately, Mark would've been revealed to have been Keiji's long-lost brother, and after one final duel, Keiji and Mark would've put aside their differences and settle the feud between the Ozawa clan and the Ashura Clan for good.

** Master Xandred. Some consider him to be a menacing villain, but some consider him to be even more inept than Lothor.

** Fans are divided if Samurai and Super Samurai should be counted as two separate seasons or as one season spread over two years, seeing how it was filmed as a single season, but ultimately broadcast as two (future incarnations would be designed to have two seasons apiece from the outset). For the record, Saban Brands officially considers them to be separate seasons

* CompleteMonster: [[TheChessmaster Serrator]], the Nighlok King, [[EstablishingCharacterMoment introduces himself]] by slaughtering Master Xandred's army of Moogers. Under Xandred's services, he sadistically torments the Rangers and forces people on an island to [[InvoluntaryBattleToTheDeath fight each other to the death]]. He later [[TheStarscream betrays Xandred]], attacking his CoDragons Octoroo and Dayu, admitting to have turned the latter and her beloved [[spoiler:Deker]] into accursed Nighloks for all of eternity, taking pleasure in their suffering. Serrator's plan would be revealed wanting to crack the Earth so the Netherworld to flood it, in an attempt to take over both worlds, uncaring about the billions of lives lost in the process, human and Nighlok alike, cementing himself as the vilest foe both heroes and villains had ever faced (except for Master Xandred).

* DesignatedHero: Kimberly Crossman's '''HEARTBREAKING''' performance as Lauren, combined with the rangers' ''Shikenger''-faithful UndyingLoyalty to Jayden, has made a number of fans consider the rangers this (considering Lauren lived a lonely existence for the sake of her duty, and the rangers were completely unsympathetic).

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Unfortunately, the six main Rangers became this trope after the revelation that [[spoiler: Lauren is the real heir and Jayden merely acted as a body-double while she underwent training for the ultimate sealing technique]]. We're supposed to sympathise with them until they focus so much on Jayden and how ''he'' must feel about having kept this secret from them while blatantly ignoring Lauren's attempts at getting to know and become friends with them or not taking them seriously. Along with repeatedly [[HeroWorship hero-worshipping]] Jayden, the rest of the Samurai group comes across as just rude to a new team member who is honestly trying her best to make good out of the situation.

* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Lauren, who gets hit hard with a case of being TheUnfavorite on her team, being treated as a ReplacementScrappy by the other rangers (to the point of making them UnintentionallyUnsympathetic) and [[YankTheDogsChain the one thing she trained for her whole life failed]]. Ouch. Yet, the female Red Ranger along with her actress Kimberly Crossman are often seen as the highlights of Samurai by fans.

** Lauren dedicated her entire life to mastering a sealing technique, only for it to fail. This would be bad enough, however Jayden's injuries forced her to take up the leader mantle. Despite her continuous effects to befriend the Rangers, they do nothing but talk about how awesome Jayden is and ''compare her to him '''to her face'''''. After her aforementioned technique fails, nobody says so much as two words to her directly.
