* FridgeBrilliance: When looking at both characters, it becomes clear why the Overlord of I is an AntiVillain while his son in II is always evil no matter what. The first overlord [[spoiler:was a Hero who was brought back from the dead and made evil by the minions. Something must be left over that drives him to good, even if it's filtered through PragmaticVillainy]]. The Overlad, contrariwise, was raised by Gnarl for the better of 13 years. Plenty of time to know "proper" evil compared to dear old dad.

* {{Fanon}}: A surprisingly large amount of fanfictions seem to agree that the Eighth Hero was either a Knight or [[MagicKnight Magus]], and named Gallant.

* AnnoyingVideoGameHelper: Repeating yourself doesn't make you any clearer, Gnarl.

* UglyCute: The Minions. Rose and Velvet even give them the charming nicknames of "Cherubs" and "Pixies" respectively. Visually fearsome to the point of hideousness. But they make the most adorable sounds that two metal objects scraping together can evoke. To hammer the point, the minions are a cross between E.T. and the cuter moments of Sméagol. They can look downright adorable, for example with the sequence in the tutorial of the second game where the minions disguises themselves as children, then they begin to sing...

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The music in this series is quite epic and would not seem out of place in a more serious fantasy game.
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8VNIk2aA9w Title theme for the second game]]. It should give you a small taste for the great soundtrack of the game you are about to play.

* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound:
** A lot of players get at least a little happy every time one of their minions says "For Da Overlord!", "For Da Master!", or just plain "For you!".
** The "Recall Minions" sound is pretty satisfying too.

* DemonicSpiders: ''Flame. Thrower. Dwarves.'' Getting past even ''one'' is beyond difficult, and fighting ''more'' than one is a LuckBasedMission.
** Unless you wait until their back is turned and send green minions onto 'em. Can't flame the enemy when the enemy is perched on your face, stabbing you in the gas tank. Heh heh heh...
** Or unless you use the fire-immune red minions to distract them. Fighting two at once is still fairly hard.

LuckBasedMission.

* {{Narm}}: Kahn, during his whole GetBackHereBoss routine, dragging out the fight with horrible dialog. He tried to do PunctuatedForEmphasis, but it wasn't really coming from his balls; rather it sounds like his diaphragm is where his adam's apple should be.

** The Ruborian Bombers are either this or GoddamnBats, depending. Once you get to them they go down pretty quick, but ''until'' you get to them they'll be cheerfully lobbing grenades on Minion-pulverising strength at you and your little guys.

* NeedsMoreLove: A great series with witty dialogue and good gameplay, sadly lacks the popularity needed for the possibility of a third entry.
