* BrokenBase: The removal of [[ScrappyMechanic Travis' motorcycle]] and the sandbox city in general. Some fans were very glad that it was removed because it took no time at all to travel around the city and it was much easier, while other fans hated that they could no longer explore the city and drive around. Even [[WebAnimation/ZeroPunctuation Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw]] complained that removing the sandbox city from the game was just lazy.

Added DiffLines:

** The idea of a "more mature plot" is itself rather contested. Those who prefer the first game have said that the plot's far less clever and self-aware, and prioritizes fanservice and trying to be funny over the more subtle, silly-but-insightful writing of the first game. Changes like the removal of the sandbox and the side job minigames have been cited as contradictory to the themes of the series. The fact that the first game was written and directed by Suda while the second game had very little input from him is likely what led to these differences.

* One True Pairing/Squick: TravisxShinobu. Supporters of this pairing think that Travis is an insensitive, stupid jerk for rejecting Shinobu when she's clearly in love with him and will do anything, read ANYTHING! for him (including leaving without tearing him a new one after he rejects her). Others view their 9 year age difference (in the second game Shinobu is 21 while Travis is 30) and Shinobu's hero worship as unsettling.

** A Meta example: Matt Mercer, Skelter Helter's voice actor, is also a known cosplayer. One of his cosplays is, in fact, of Cloud Strife. [[AffectionateParody Now considering who Skelter is supposed to look like...]]

*** Rank 7. Challenging, but fair (once you get past [[ScrappyMechanic the bike section]]). It's also a very thematic fight, and even kicks off Travis's CharacterDevelopment that comes into play for the next fights. And it also has SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic.
