* ExcusePlot: Primarily a trait of Itagaki's games, although they are not so much {{Excuse Plot}}s as very loosely explained ones. Hayashi's games (the two Sigma and Dragon Sword) are usually more fleshed out, and the developpers of [=NG3=] insist that they want to avoid this trope.

Hayashi's games (the two Sigma and Dragon Sword) are usually more fleshed out, and the developpers of [=NG3=] insist that they want to avoid this trope.trope, notably by bringing back the writer of the NES series.

Added DiffLines:

* GoddamnedBoss: The infamous "worm boss" in the 360 ''Ninja Gaiden II''. It's not difficult, just glitchy and horribly ill-designed: 90% of the time you will not see it, even when you're hitting it. It was so bad that Sigma 2 didn't even try to make it better: they just mercifully removed it from the level, along with the entire "green tunnel" section. You won't even notice it.

* GameBreaker: The Unlabo(u)red Flawlessness, when used by a player skilled enough to stay alive at 5% health, cuts enemies down with shocking speed. Most of them at any rate. Then again, given the [[DesperationAttack strict health-lacking requirement]] and the game's difficulty, this isn't as severe as the others listed.
** Arguably, the Izuna Drop. It is fairly easy to execute and will instantly kill any human-sized enemy. In the first game enemies often block and you can only do it with "katana-like" weapons so its use is restricted. However, in the second game you can do it with almost any weapon, the enemies don't guard at all, and by using the Falcon Talons' Flying Swallow you can crush them effortlessly. Sigma 2 nerfed it slightly by making some mooks (almost all of them in Master Ninja) resilient enough to survive it.

** He was piss easy in the original game, but the rerelease, ''NinjaGaiden Black'' significantly upped the difficulty by {{nerf}}ing the Flying Swallow (A diving sword strike that would be a GameBreaker in the original, if the original wasn't already NintendoHard).

** In the first game, especially in the highest difficulties, a good portion of the non-human enemies are DemonicSpiders, really. The black "laser eye" fiends or the cat fiends are just ''hellish'' to fight in groups.

** The birds in the NES games. Oh god, the birds.

* FakeDifficulty: The {{Camera Screw}}s were bad enough in the first Xbox game, but the second added some extremely cheap mooks, always in hordes, who have grabs that are way too fast to anticipate, or ones who constantly spam explosive projectiles, mostly from off-screen. Mentor and Master Ninja Modes often takes this straight into BulletHell.

* MightyGlacier[=/=]StoneWall: The purple zombies of the first Xbox game. They carry enormous bayonet guns, their attacks are pretty damaging, but they are so slow you have to be really careless to get killed. And they just ''never'' go down.
