** Even thought she was ''pretending'' to be scared, the fact that Pinkie was scared of Luna (especially "thinking" she'll eat her) is EXTREMELY funny considering [[{{Fanfic/Cupcakes}} a certain fanfic]].

* FandomNod: Twilight yells at Pinkie for [[PeripheryDemographic enjoying something that's intended for little kids.]] Granted, she was talking about trick-or-treating, but the coincidence is still there.

* FridgeBrilliance: Why is it that no one in town recognizes Twilight Sparkle's costume of a wizard from ancient history, but Luna gets it straight off, right down to the details? Luna's spent a thousand years on the moon: She doesn't have the intervening history to muddle her memory of the past. (Compare to someone in stasis easily recognizing someone from their own era, even as they fail at pop culture.)

* AlternateAesopInterpretation: It's no use trying to change or get rid of a negative reputation - some people will keep spreading it, even though they know it's not true. Instead, you should play to everyone's expectations of you, let them define who you are (at least in public), and generally go along with the herd. You ''do'' want to be liked and accepted, don't you?

** Alternatively, it's no use trying to leave your past behind, so bring it back instead and turn it into a laughing matter, [[DarkAndTroubledPast even if it was painful to you]].
** FantasticAesop: Of course, given that they're sapient horses, their definitions of the importance and acceptability of going along with the herd will vary from our own wildly.
** It seemed to be more about showing that Luna's scary side (which she does have) is fun too and nothing to *really* be afraid of. She was shown enjoying herself casually with the other ponies soon after.
** Actually it didn't worked that way with Luna: the grown up ponies seems to be scared by her because of her past as NM, but in reality they were actually showing the same kind of fear and submission they give to her sister Celestia (at least before the [[spoiler:spiders incident]], when they were really scared) when she shows up. The only ones who shows up some fear were the kids (and Twilight's friends, but then again they saw NM more closely than the other ponies), but then again they were just following Pinky's example of how "being scared make things more fun". So at the end it was all a matter of [[PoorCommunicationKills misunderstandings]].

*** That her constant running away caused her to lose track of Pip, who nearly drowned, pushes her actions a bit off the deep end.
*** This might be FridgeBrilliance, as the episode Baby Cakes is her learning to actually take care of kids instead of just treating them like playmates.
* BrokenBase: While not as divisive as [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E21OverABarrel other]] [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E8TheMysteriousMareDoWell episodes]] (it managed to be one of the highest rated episodes by Hasbro, so yeah), either this episode was the best episode for Luna, or the worst thing about her.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: Twilight's intro is played against a variation on "In the Hall of the Mountain King". It is later heard intermittently throughout the episode with slight changes.

** Let's just say that Luna's [[NoIndoorVoice portrayal]] [[NightmareFuelStationAttendant in this episode]] didn't sit well with a number of fans, either.

* AndTheFandomRejoiced:
** Fans were already excited that Luna was coming back, but this early in the season? ''And'' Zecora, who kinda fell off the radar halfway through Season 1? Even [[FanNickname Dinky & Ace]], some fan favorite background ponies that haven't been seen since "Call of the Cutie"[[hottip:*:OK, Dinky was in one of the {{Imagine Spot}}s in the previous episode, but other than that she's been missing]] show up prominently in this episode.
** [[MemeticBystander Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo]], one of the most successful examples of an EnsembleDarkhorse in recent fiction, was finally pulled out of the background and got her own scene...alongside [[HeterosexualLifePartners Carrot Top]] no less!

** One of the most popular fanfics over the season break was FalloutEquestria, where the protagonist is named "Littlepip". This episode introduces a new character named Pipsqueak and Zecora at one point calls him [[NamesTheSame "Little Pip"]]. This isn't a ShoutOut due to AnimationLeadTime (and the writers aren't allowed to read fanfics anyways). The coincidence [[http://justmoth.deviantart.com/#/d4dlxj3 hasn't escaped some fans]], though.

* FridgeBrilliance: Luna instantly recognizing the Star Swirl costume. While, in being royalty, it is expected for her to know more history than the average pony, it is far more likely that, being thousands of years old, she actually knew the guy.
* FridgeLogic: Did Luna never notice that ''nopony'', Celestia included, was using "thou" or "thy" anymore? Or that Celestia wasn't using the royal "we" or '''THE TRADITIONAL ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE''' either? (The main question, really, is how much socialization she'd gotten in the months since her return.)
** Could fit in the above. The royal terms and Royal Canterlot Voice are for use with one's subjects, as Luna clearly states. If Luna's been embarrassed or ashamed and mostly hanging out with Celestia until she feels better, she would have been speaking more informally, and perhaps assumed Celestia's lack of "thou", "thee", and "thy" was a personal quirk she'd picked up in the last thousand years.
** There's also no reason to assume Celestia never uses the Traditional Royal Canterlot Voice; she just hasn't needed to in the situations where we usually see her (with Twilight Sparkle and small groups). If something happened to start a riot or a panic, Celestia could and would shock everypony back to sense by raising her voice.

* HilariousInHindsight: One of the most popular fanfics over the season break was FalloutEquestria, where the protagonist is named "Littlepip". *** There's also this line from ''{{Progress}}'', which ended up being surprisingly accurate to the canon Luna's personality, and came complete with DramaticThunder:

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Likely very unintentional, but a yet-identified white pony wearing a distinctive pair of glasses, hair/mane in a bun, and costumed as a devil has not gone unnoticed by the fandom to her resemblance to Sarah Palin (or, in some cases, {{Bayonetta}}, which already has had its Palin comparison established).
* TheWoobie: Luna. The poor girl ''tries'', but due to a lot of different things, she keeps making things worse and worse. Who can blame her for finally getting completely fed up with everypony treating her like a monster?
** Also, Fluttershy. When Luna's standing over her, loudly demanding advice, all Fluttershy can do is meekly agree while looking like she wishes she could melt into the ground.
