* IdiotPlot: If either the Apple Family or Flim and Flam had had even an ounce of business sense, the entire thing could've been worked out to the benefit of all involved in roughly five minutes. Instead, pride and greed make them into enemies when they ought to have been partners.
** The Apples simply ''cannot'' produce enough cider on their own to meet the demand of Ponyville, and they know this because it happens every year. We only have Granny's word that the Brothers' cider won't be as good because Flim and Flam don't take the time to ensure quality, which is laughably biased of her because at the time none of the Apples had tried the competition's cider -- they just presume that, because it's mass produced quickly, it's of inferior quality. Even if it is, though, as Rainbow points out "Who cares how good the cider is if I never get to drink any?"
** On the Flim Flam Brothers' side, they offer the Apples a rather unfair 75%-25% split of the profit, and when they refuse because Applejack says the family needs the money from cider sales to keep the farm afloat during the winter, they decide to become competitors. Of course, seeing as the Apples control all the apple orchards in Ponyville, the Brothers have now made enemies of the ponies they intended to be their suppliers, and they later admit they'll have to order their apples from somewhere else. This means that not only were the Flim Flam Brothers trying to swindle the Apples out of their fair share of the profits, but their own profits will be lower because it's almost certainly going to be more expensive paying to ship in apples from somewhere else than it would be to offer the Apples more for theirs.
** Then comes the competition, where the episode fall apart several times. The only reason Flim and Flam have apples for the competition at all is because Granny lets them use one of their fields, complacent the Brothers will lose. With the Apples out-produced by the Cider Squeezy machine, the rest of the Mane Six help the Apples and, according to Twilight, are outpacing its production by a ratio of 5:3. With it now apparent the reason for their low cider production was the workforce, why didn't the Apples ever ask for extra help in past years? Also, when they go to help, Twilight asks if "honorary" family members are allowed to pitch in, and Flim and Flam allow this, giving their competition an advantage they could have easily denied.
