* OlderThanTheyThink: A pair of "new" background ponies (One with a wrench for a cutie mark, and one whose cutie mark appears to be ''[[NorseMythology Thor's hammer]]'') have caught the interest of some fans and appear to be on their way to becoming {{Ensemble Darkhorse}}s. They appeared as early as "Applebuck Season", but this might be the first time they've been shown with visible cutie marks.

fit the Idiot Plot trope better; moving, rewording some
* IdiotPlot: If either the Apple Family or Flim and Flam had had even an ounce of business sense, the entire thing could've been worked out to the benefit of all involved in roughly five minutes. See WhatAnIdiot below for the specifics.

* IdiotPlot: If either the Apple Family or Flim and Flam had had even an ounce of business sense, the entire thing could've been worked out to the benefit of all involved in roughly five minutes. See WhatAnIdiot below minutes. ** The Flim-Flam Brothers offer a 75%-25% split of the profits with the Apples, which they refuse. However, it's clear the Apples cannot keep up with the demand for cider with the specifics.townsfolk, and they never have in several years prior. The Brothers' machine ''does'' produce cider at a much faster rate, and as Rainbow Dash points out, the quality of the Apple cider (which is an InformedAttribute since the proper cider the Brothers produce seems just fine) is irrelevant if most of the town doesn't get any. With how eager everypony is for cider, there was clearly plenty of profit to go around if the two sides worked out a fairer deal with the other. ** During the competition, the Flim-Flam Brothers agree to let "honorary" family members help out the Apples. Previously they were out-producing the Apples 3 barrels to 1. Then they asked to be able to double their manpower. While you couldn't expect that to increase production as much as it did, surely the Brothers could have realized their advantage would be lessened by this. ** The Apples also have a very poor business sense beyond the Flim-Flam Brothers. There seems to be no limit to how many mugs of cider a pony can buy at a time, meaning somepony like Pinkie Pie can talk off with at least a dozen mugs while other ponies wait all day to be told they're out. And considering, with the help of the rest of the Mane Six, they ''do'' manage to produce enough cider to match the Flim-Flam Brothers' machine, why did it never occur to them in the past to hire outside help; their cider production falls far short of the town's demand of it, and they ''know'' that because it happens every year.

* WhatAnIdiot: ** Flim-Flam Bros., did you really think it was a good idea to sell your badly made cider to the customers at the end of the show? Even worse, since they had some early barrels made from the best apples which probably ''would'' have been decent enough to serve. Depending on how you saw the townsponies' actions in the end, it might not matter if they used the decent batch ''or'' the crappy batch. ** ''Why'' did you agree to let the "honorary" family members help the Apples? You were out-producing the Apples 3 barrels to 1. Then they asked to be able to double their manpower. While you couldn't expect that to increase production as much as it did, surely you could have realized your advantage would be reduced to an uncomfortably small margin. [[PrideBeforeAFall Pride comes before the fall, you know]] and you still could have salvaged a deal if you could eke out a win with 9 ponies producing cider against 1 machine. ** The Flim Flam brothers getting competitive in the first place. The machine fills a niche that really needs filling. Had the brothers tried to work out a fairer deal with the Apple family, they could have landed themselves a neat profit. *** By the same token, if the Apple family made any effort -- any effort ''at all'' -- to haggle with the brothers. ** If you take an uncharitable view of her HonorBeforeReason approach then Granny Smith betting the cider-selling rights to Ponyville and putting her livelihood in jeopardy. She hadn't even consulted Applejack and Big Mac on it, and the two of them looked like they had reservations over the agreement. ** The Apples not limiting consumption of the cider which may have a hand in quick shortages. They serve Pinkie Pie ''at least'' twenty mugs a day when other ponies, namely Rainbow Dash, don't even get to have one.

Moved Fridge Brilliance entries to Fridge page.
* FridgeBrilliance: ** Why would the Flim Flam bros. sell the obviously inferior cider instead of the more carefully made batches after the contest? Because the barrels that held the good batch were made first and, therefore, stuck under all of the more hastily made cider so they couldn't easily dig them out. ** Alternatively, they sold the bad cider because they'd been enjoying [[FrothyMugsOfWater good cider]] for most of the episode. ** While nonalcoholic cider does exist in real life, there ''is'' another explanation for why no pony gets drunk; equines have a higher alcohol tolerance than humans do, meaning it'd take a ''lot'' more to get a pony drunk than a human.

These guys were two major jerkasses, but that doesn't make them irredeemably evil. At most this is a Kick The Dog moment.
* MoralEventHorizon: The Flim-Flam Brothers [[spoiler:rubbing their victory in the Apples' face, including saying they're essentially going to demolish their ''home'', then laughing about it to their faces.]] Rainbow Dash and some say the townsponies consider it this InUniverse.
