* FanNickname: Gunther and Les's house is known as "The Gulag" by fans on [=GoComics=]. The commenters at ''Blog/TheComicsCurmudgeon'' know it as "Cockblock Cabin".

* FanPreferredCouple: When once polled with the question of who Luann should take to a dance, readers chose Aaron over Gunther. While Evans had them attend the dance together (and even had Aaron kiss Luann after she asked him to do so in order to make an overlooking Tiffany jealous) Aaron still treated Luann more as a friend than as girlfriend material. Even after this, however, many fans still wanted her to end up with Aaron, only for Evans to permanently kill the ship later by [[PutOnABus shipping Aaron off to Hawaii]]. Once the college arc began, readers began shipping her with Jock (aka Jack) as well over Gunther, who they preferred with Tiffany.

* HilariousInHindsight: The arc where Luann runs into Clay Aiken and mistakes a note from him to mean he's in love with her is most ironic after the real life Aiken came out as gay.

* NightmareFuel: Tiffany and Luann's near-drowning.

Most of the time, Luann was the one picking on Brad for seemingly no real reason except that she's bored. It does get toned down thankfully when they get older and Brad gets significant CharacterDevelopment.

** Gunther's girlfriend Bets: a combination of ControlFreak, ManipulativeBitch and SelfieFiend tendencies has caused many fans to dislike her. Just as fans were starting to get used to her, they broke up and she was PutOnABus.

** Bets was either a breath of fresh air (relentlessly positive and upbeat) or an annoying attempt at being trendy (a pushy, shelfish wannabe influence with little sense of boundaries).

* DesignatedHero: Luann and Bernice whenever something bad happened to Tiffany in high school. Their taking amusement in her suffering was intended to come off as an AlphaBitch getting her comeuppance, but since Tiffany was never being mean in these moments, it comes across as them bullying her.
* DesignatedVillain: Tiffany was this in high school on the rare occasions she wasn't being mean to Luann and Bernice. [[{{Jerkass}} They bullied her anyway]].
* EightDeadlyWords: Not from the characters (though almost everyone has their moments of [[{{Jerkass}} cruelty]], but from the wasted potential. The comic has a tendency to either remove interesting characters (Crystal and Knute), bring back bland, uninteresting characters for the sake of filler (Ann Eiffel and Piro), abruptly stop interesting story arcs (the supposed break-in at Tiffany's mansion), or have WillTheyOrWontThey ShipTease that either doesn't go anywhere, or leads to a very short-lived relationship (pick one).

* FridgeHorror: Brad and Toni want to be parents, but can't even take care of Shannon properly.
** Bernice's career path of being a guidance counselor, given her unsympathetic behavior.

** The arc with Tiffany going on a crash diet to stay skinny and then, when reaching adulthood, she puts on several pounds and loses her confidence altogether.
** Tiffany convincing Bets and Gunther to get back together is sad now that they've broken up again, apparently for good this time.

* PlotTumor: Tiffany trying to seduce Kip started off more sporadic, but soon became her only storyline.

** Ann Eiffel. Many find her to be an insufferable antagonist who's well outstayed her welcome and irritating for the fact she rarely suffers any meaningful consequences or losses.

** Gunther's girlfriend Bets: a combination of ControlFreak, ManipulativeBitch and SelfieFiend tendencies has caused many fans to full-on ''despise'' her. Her actions in [[https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2022/09/12 this strip]] and her breakup with Gunther cemented her status.
** Stef is considered this by some readers, for a lot of the same reasons as Ann Eiffel. The fact that she's Tiffany's roommate means she appears way more often than Ann Eiffel, and her appearances only having one joke (Stef is an insensitive bitch to her roommates) means she very quickly gets tiresome. [[KarmaHoudini She never gets called out on her lousy behavior, or faces any comeuppance either]].

** Stef's boyfriend Kip. Not so much due to him (though his lack of personality doesn't help matters), but for the fact that his mere presence brings Tiffany's story arcs and CharacterDevelopment to a screeching halt just so she can waste time trying to unsuccessfully seduce him. This has happened at least three times, with the latest one being the worst.
* SeasonalRot: The strip has fallen into this as of 2023. The interesting characters and story arcs have been completely replaced by only two storylines: A love triangle between Luann, Bernice and Piro, and Tiffany being obsessed with trying to seduce Kip. Any other interesting sounding story arcs are immediately interrupted to focus on the other two. That and... whatever the heck happened between Gunther and Bets showed a serious decline in writing quality.

** Ox's crush on Tiffany could lead to them being a couple, with him improving her self esteem, stopping her whining about being single, and putting a stop to her numerous attempts to steal Kip away from Stef. This never went anywhere, and probably never will.
** Jack and Luann have chemistry, and could make a good couple. Instead, they're just friends.

** Spring 2023 saw Tiffany interact normally toward Kip, without trying to seduce him at all. This could've led to some CharacterDevelopment for her. Unfortunately, by the summer she had reverted back to trying to seduce him... again.

** Whenever a terrible situation happens to Tiffany, Luann and Bernice taking amusement out of it is supposed to be some sort of karmic retribution but it comes off more as schadenfreude. They even actively bully Tiffany on the rare occasions she ''isn't'' being mean to them.

** Many of Luann's love interests were grown men while she was still a 16-year-old in high school. Stuart was old enough to be married and Ben was a Sergeant in the army (and therefore at least 21). Both of these men also met Luann’s parents, who apparently saw no issue with their daughter dating an adult (one strip even had Frank confirm that he was perfectly okay with 16-year-old Luann dating a 21-year-old man, as long as the man seemed respectable enough.)
** Tara bringing a bow and arrow into Luann's daycare class and getting away scot-free comes off as incredibly insensitive, given the rising number of school shootings in the US.

** Tiffany's whining about being single when Ox has an obvious crush on her comes off as this, too.
* TheWoobie: Ox's unrequited crush on Tiffany makes him this. You just want to give the guy a hug (then tell Tiffany to stop trying to seduce Kip and date Ox already).
** Poor Gunther. He has to live with [[{{Jerkass}} Les]], [[NoRespectGuy gets treated like garbage despite having a good head on his shoulders]] and both his relationships so far have ended poorly. * CharacterDerailment: Summer 2023 and onwards saw Tiffany go from being a complex, interesting character with flaws and insecurities of her own, who just so happened to try to seduce Stef's boyfriend Kip away from her every once in a while; to being a delusional, attempted-homewrecking slut who not only was completely obsessed with trying to seduce Kip, but also completely believed that ''he'' was the one hitting on ''her''.

** Tiffany during the dunk tank fundraiser. The comic acts like it's her fault for bailing when all Luann and Bernice had to do was fill the tank with warm water. They didn't, then put the blame solely on her for leaving. What makes it worse is that this was to support Delta, meaning they put bullying someone who had previously bullied them, even though she wasn't being mean at the moment, above helping a friend.

** Tara is an authority-hating delinquent who acts like a smug jerk and talks Luann into committing crimes. The fact that she gets no comeuppance just makes it worse.

** Ox's crush on Tiffany could lead to them being a couple, with him improving her self esteem, stopping her whining about being single, and putting a stop to her numerous attempts to steal Kip away from Stef. This never went anywhere.
