* Jossed: Hajime Kanzaka disproved the theory that Lost Universe and LightNovel/Slayers are set in the same universe, as you can read here. He just liked the names, and reused them. Whether you feel this is an improvement or not varies among the community. Strangely, the "Translation Notes" included as a bonus in the official DVD set of the series does state that the two series are connected.

* Fanon - Mostly the 'Lost Universe is in the same Universe as Slayers'; this would, among other things, mean that would have the trope . This is under fan debate, of course...
* FridgeBrilliance - And a touch of FridgeHorror in Canal's obsession with equipping herself with ordinary weapons. None of the normal stuff she picks up can hold a candle to her Lost Ship tech, so it's kind of odd that she goes on and on trying to beg, borrow or steal mundane cannons and missiles for herself, until we discover that [[spoiler: her Lost Ship weapons consume her pilot's body and soul for fuel, and her last pilot died from overusing them.]]
* StrawmanHasAPoint - Canal wanting to get rid of Millie is understandable because she adds a lot of expenses to their already-strained budget. The fact Millie absolutely refuses to ever use the food synthesiser, despite knowing that she cannot hand-make anything without blowing up the kitchen, is an added deal breaker; as Canal points out, having to repair the kitchen three times a day, seven days a week, is expensive. Plus, Canal is a SpaceshipGirl -- how would you like somebody detonating bombs inside of your body?

Fridge logic goes on headscratchers

* FridgeLogic - They talk about years, days, hours, etc... That sure makes sense on planet Earth yet, when we go to space, we cannot work with those units as those depends on the relation between the Sun and planet Earth.
** There's no reason they can't have a standard day as a universal time reference for space travellers. Otherwise nobody could schedule anything.
** Also when they go to a planet it always seems bright as day. Then comes to wonder... "Where's the star that lights all that?!?!"
* JerkassHasAPoint - Canal wanting to get rid of Millie is kind of understandable because she adds a lot of expenses to their already-strained budget. The fact Millie absolutely refuses to ever use the food synthesiser, despite knowing that she cannot hand-make anything without blowing up the kitchen, is an added deal breaker; let's face it, as Canal points out, having to repair the kitchen three times a day, seven days a week, is expensive. Uh, that sounds too much like bashing.

* JerkAss - Canal and Millie, sometimes to the extent of making one (or both) of them TheScrappy. Both of them are extremely self-centered and arrogant, to which Millie adds her fixation on being the best at everything in the universe. Their constant bickering just makes them more annoying.
